Scratch.
I stumbled, out of control, over the burning hot concrete floor, crashing hard to my knees. Laughing and birds singing were in the air, as I turned and dropped onto my rear end. A shadow appeared in front of me, blocking the sun that shone bright like fresh lemon juice, offering a helping hand.
"Are you okay? Nothing precious broken back there, cutie?"
Huffing I got up on my own, bumping Ashton with my shoulder passing by the lean frame of a wannabe-man with an ego to Pluto and back.
"You may shove the cutie up your Ass-ton", I replied wittily, while picking up my skateboard and glancing towards the others that had already gathered in the scant shade of a lone, mummified oak. I dropped the board, skating over to them and leaving the scorching heat of the building site behind. Dropping into the green grass, whose pigments looked as if out of an ad for cow milk.
- "See? She'll never pull off that Wallride. You owe me five bucks Ted!"
I pushed my best friend V playfully while pouting.
- "You can't even do it, so who are you to judge!"
I glanced at her smiling cheekily, before rolling onto my back.
"I can do other things you bet!", a certain voice uttered arrogantly.
"Keep dreaming! Don't get cute with me and get lost, you are standing in my sun!", I grumbled in Ass' direction while hearing the ping of a phone. Grabbing it with a scowl, I wanted to press the direct message icon. In the momentum of the movement, I decided against it and called out "Siri?"
- "Yes."
- "Read my latest message to me."
I had seen it was from a certain someone in front of me. This was going to teach Mister I-know-everything-better-than-y' all a lesson.
- "Mr. Ass – behind – pile of shit has sent you Peach - Do you want to go someplace?"
Multiple chuckles and a faint siren filled the air. "We can't do that forever, ya know? We're all eighteen and off to college soon enough."
I laid back onto my back, yet the siren only came closer!
"Shit."
Scrambling onto our feet everyone hurried away. Hopping over the fence, I picked up my torn backpack from the side of the narrow road. "Hurry," Ashton uttered while pulling me along. A sharp "Hey" could be heard from the other side of the road. While my mind played the song "That's How You Know" on repeat, we ran after the others that had already mysteriously disappeared from our and the pursuer's view. At the end of the road, we leaped into the overgrown yard of a house that seemed to be abandoned due to its state of falling apart. Pressing against the pickets, we heard a heavy breathing and a sudden splash next to us.
Before a policeman, drenched like a pug, whose stunned expression was priceless, stood an elderly woman. An apron was bound around her waist with a ribbon.
Fuuuuck.
