Blinking awake the sun hits my face harshly. I flip on the bed trying to escape the light when I fall from bed hitting the ground. I groan and roll over to rub at the sore spot on my shoulder. I hear the door opening and I open my eyes. Sitting up quickly I realize I'm not in my room. "You okay in there?"
"I'm fine." I rub at my eyes. Keeping my head in my hands I try to think back the last thing from the previous night.
"You don't have to leave. We could figure something out and maybe delay this for a little." Finally I recognize the voice and startled I gape at the person at the door. Renée Swan. Now Renée Dwyer was standing at the door. "You should get up soon."
"Okay. Thanks." I get up from the floor and try to figure out how this dream could be so realistic. The drawers are partly empty yet are some completely. Only leaving behind shorts and tank tops that couldn't be worn out in Forks. I look at the cases set aside and decide to just keep going till wake up from this lucid dream. Going outside I find the clay pot and the small cactus Bella holds at the beginning of the movie. I pick it up carefully hoping not to get pricked by the small plant. Then stand there for a moment of peace.
"Bye, Bella!" I wave back to some girls yelling to me from across the street. At some point Bella must have been social. Wonder if they are from club at school or some forced socialization on Renée's side or even Phil. Renée comes out and pushes a cell phone at me.
"It won't work again, baby."
"You put it on hold." I try not to but a chuckle escapes when I notice the second point to make to her.
"I did?"
"Look. You also called Mexico." Renée gives a small push and we giggle together while I fix the phone.
"I'll figure it out. You gotta be able to reach me and Phil on the road." Renée grins and lightly holds my arm. Renée wiggles her eyebrows which I respond with a laugh and eyebrow raise of my own. "I love saying that. On the road."
"Very romantic." Phil walks out and puts the suitcases into the car.
"If you call crappy motels, backwater towns and ballpark hot dogs romantic." Putting his baseball hat on Renée's head he kisses her. Phil quickly moves back to the car while Renée takes hold of me. We walk slowly to the car.
"Now, you know if you change your mind, I'll race back here from wherever the game is." I feel guilty from how stressed Renée looks. My smile and this of a better way to reassure her than Bella attempted.
"I won't change my mind, mom. I want to do this. A change of pace, with new people."
"You might. You've always hated Forks."
"It's not about Forks, it's about Dad. I mean, two weeks a year, we barely know each other." Renée doesn't look sure about the move. "Mom, I want to go. I'll be fine. Forks will be a change but I think it's a change that we all need." Renée hugs me and I climb into the back of the car wondering why I still haven't woken up.
I watch the scenery pass on our way to the airport. This morning I found that Bella had everything ready. Probably set everything up the night before. I rest during the plane for whatever I can see from my small window. At the airport I move quickly and grab my suitcases. I find Charlie and suddenly we are on our way to Forks. My home for now.
