Leaning my arms on each side of the gurney I sit up and Charlie burst through the doors. A E.R. doctor had been looking at my eyes with a light while Tyler was on a gurney nearby with a cut on his head. "Bells. Are you alright?"

I put my hand on his arm trying to calm him down. "I'm okay, dad. Just a small fright. Honestly nothing happened."

"I'm so sorry, Bella. I tried to stop." Tyler why couldn't you just stay quiet.

"It'll be okay, Tyler."

"It sure as hell not okay."

"Dad, he couldn't stop from the black ice-"

"We nearly lost you." Charlie looks so upset. There is a dueling feeling of grateful for having someone to feel that about an incident occurring to me and sadness for living in a false life.

"I wouldn't leave you, I promise." Charlie looks conflicted and I give his hand a squeeze while he continues to glare at Tyler.

"You can kiss your license goodbye."

"I heard the Chief's daughter was here." Dr. Carlisle Cullen. Looks so tired. This must be terrifying moment for the whole family, Edward putting his abilities to use so publicly. Worry about the Volturi getting any word about what happened. Luckily there isn't a video about this happening or any news attention at any level.

"Good. Dr. Cullen."

"I've got this one, Jackie." Carlisle takes the chart and looks it over. "You have a nice knot growing back there, but your x-rays show no indication of concussion." I lightly prod the back of my head and grimace at the small spike of pain.

"I'm so sorry, Bella. I'm really-" Charlie is quick to close the curtain between the gurneys.

"The real savior in all this is Edward. He was able to knock me out of the way so I didn't get the worst of it."

"Edward? Your boy?" Carlisle looks back to my chart trying to think of a cover up I'm guessing.

"I must have not of been paying attention. It seemed like he was nowhere near me."

Carlisle smiles. "As long as you're safe."

Charlie and I are making our way out of the treatment area when he lets me know about Renée. "I just have to sign some paperwork. You better call your mom."

My hands pat at my pockets trying to remember where I had left my phone and hope it wasn't crushed when Edward knocked me to the ground. "Yeah, I should let her know I'm okay. She's probably freaking." Charlie nods and walks off to where ever the paperwork is kept. I'm glad to see the phone is okay and start to dial when I see the three Cullens down the hall.

Rosalie looks ready to beat Edward while Carlisle stands between to two. "This isn't just about you, it's about all of us-"

Carlisle notices me at the end of the hall and cuts Rosalie short. "Let's take this in my office." Rosalie looks unwilling to stop yelling at Edward but follows Carlisle away. Boy, he is definitely going to get it when he gets home.

I divert my eyes to my phone while Edward approaches. "I was standing right next to you."

"I thought you were next to your car, across the lot. But you know flimsy memories of any ordinary human." Edward's expression hardens as he gets closer.

"No, I wasn't."

This is some bull- "It actually wouldn't make sense for you to be nearby. What were you visiting an imaginary friend?"

"You're confused. You hit your head."

"Your face." We blink at the statement. "I know what I saw"

"And what, exactly, was that?" A second before he continues. "Why did you say 'the flimsy memories of any ordinary human.'"

Snarky that one. Went this far suppose we should go the rest of the way. "You stopped that van. You pushed it away."

"No one will believe that."

"End up in a psyche ward, no thank you. I wasn't planning to tell anyone." Edward seems to soften a bit. "I just want to know the truth. I have quite the curious mind if you haven't yet noticed."

"Can't you just thank me and get over it?"

"So you admit it?" I roll my eyes. "Thank you." We glare at each other but this feels different from the last time in the administration room.

"You're not going to let it go, are you?"

"Doesn't seem like that, does it?"

Edward spins away and leaves. "Then I hope you enjoy disappointment."

"Why did you even bother?"

Edward stops and turns back looking conflicted. "I don't know." He walks away. This was the first night he was in my room.

In my dream that night I found myself trying to reach out for Edward while we are floating for him to disappear. I awaken to see him, watching. I don't turn but reach behind my head to throw a pillow aiming for the corner of the room. While my face was covered in the process of throwing the pillow Edward must have escaped cause when I see the corner again he was gone.
