How could I forget the entrance I would make with the truck parking and cutting off loudly. So many faces turn to look and stare as I get out. Charlie had picked up the schedule and map the other day so I start out walking to first class.

How small can this town be that a new person is so shocking to them? I can't imagine what it was like when the Cullens all moved to town.

I break from my thoughts quickly when a voice startles me. "You're Isabella Swan, the new girl. Hi. I'm Eric. The eyes and ears of this place. Anything you need. Tour, guide, lunch date, shoulder to cry on." I don't know if I should laugh or cringe. There really is no response that won't sound or look vaguely rude.

"I'm kind of the 'suffer in silence' type." Wish he understood the underlying meaning of please leave me alone.

"Good headline for you feature- I'm on the paper, and you're news, baby, front page." Does he not realize we just met and he is getting a bit too familiar.

"No. Please. I'm not news. There has to be something else-"

"Whoa, chillax. No feature." Well rude but at least I put an end to that. I don't see why I have to 'chillax' but I shake it off thinking of the first class.

"Would you mind just pointing me toward Mr. Varner's class?"

Eric sure seems to enjoy the spotlight as we are walking. "You've missed a lot of the semester, but I can hook you up- tutor, cliff notes, medical excuse." His list seems endless and a bit over the top. What is this kids connections? Probably don't want to know.

The plan for gym seems to be asking for an injury. Boys not watching out for a volleyball and the girls not on a lookout for a basketball. The only size of gym clothes just happened to fit so I had to put them on and join and be put on Jessica's team.

"Block it, Chloe! Yeah! Good attack!" Listening to all the commotion I forgot the ball was going to be hit right to me. I smack in away just before it could hit my face. Just for it to hit Mike Newton on the head and let out a cry of pain.

I run over to him and apologize. "Are you alright? I tried to tell them I shouldn't be playing."

"It's only a flesh wound." Great more macho man-boy. The bell rings just in time. Oh sweet freedom. "You're Isabella, right?"

"Actually I just go by Bella."

"I'm Mike. Newton." It's like I can't escape staring people today. Jessica is quick to our side. I have no idea how Mike can be so oblivious to the signs Jessica puts out.

"She's got a great spike, doesn't she? So, you're from Arizona, right? Aren't people supposed to be tan down there?"

I was going to make her feel bad with some reasoning of staying inside but decide against it. "That's why they kicked me out." The two laugh much more than necessary while I stand there wishing the day would end. Unfortunately I have to spend lunch knowing the day is just going to get worse from this point.
