Kelly’s POV
Liam and I walked up to our make shift camp and instantly something didn’t feel right. For starters Talia and Niall were nowhere in sight. They should have been back ages before us. And the fire was out. Liam held his arm out indicating for me to stay back. I didn’t what he said but only for a moment. My curiosity getting the best of me. As we got closer it was evident that something had happened here. The brush and dirt around the fire pit was stirred up like there had been some sort of struggle. The fire had water thrown over it which wouldn’t necessarily mean anything foul had happened except we hadn’t exactly planned on leaving so they wouldn’t have wet the wood so it was not usable anymore.
“Liam what happened?” I asked knowing he knew just as much as me. He sort of shook his head before turning back to me.
“You never listen do you?” He said seeing me close behind him. I shrugged and took a few steps closing the distance between us.
“What do we do?” I knew whatever had happened it wasn’t good. But I couldn’t let Talia just disappear. I may not remember much but I we had been close and we were friends now. And I can’t lie, a tinge of hope in me lit up. Maybe somehow this would lead me to Luke. God I missed him. I craved him. Even though I didn’t know him. I mean I did but that was the old me. The side of me I didn’t remember. And I needed answers too. It wasn’t just that I had replayed this kisses over and over in my head. He remembered everything. Or at least he said he did. I need to know why, if he loved me like he said he did, that he never came to see me in the hospital.
“We follow the trail.” Liam said moving quickly towards the edge of the woods.
“What?” I said snapping back from my sort of day dream.
“Niall you brilliant boy.” Liam said sort of jumping a bit.
“What are you on about?” I said walking over to him.
He pointed to the ground. A berry lay in the dirt.
“Liam those grow on like 6 bushes around here.” I said shaking my head.
“True but they don’t form a clear path this way. And knowing Niall he would have picked these for us to eat. We need to follow the path.” He said pointing to a clear line made by berries.
“So you want to wander into the woods, without weapons, against enemies unknown?” I asked.
“You got any ideas?” He asked. I shook my head.
“Unknown berry path it is.” I said holding my hand out to get him to go first.
The berries began to get scarce as late afternoon approached. Niall must have started to run out. But the people that had them got sloppy as well. You could see where Niall or Talia had started dragging their feet through the brush. Liam didn’t talk much once we were on the trail. I don’t know if it was because he was concentrating on finding the next berry or because he didn’t know how close we were.
My mind tended to wander. It was all about Luke though. It was me recalling my flashes. I hoped that the flashes might trigger new ones. But I also found myself wondering where he was. I knew deep down in my but he would never do anything like this to Talia and Niall. I knew he wasn’t involved. Something in me told me he would never do anything to intentionally hurt me. He knew how much Talia meant to me. The thought of something happening to her hurt me in a way I can’t describe. And then I got what I was hoping for…. Sort of. A Flash.
