I promise to finish this song

It hasn't rained this hard in years.

When I wake up, I'm amazed by the window's view. Thick drops falling down the sky so fast you can't even admire them. Instead, there's a constant blur.

I love rainy days. Maybe It's because they are very rare here, and every rainy day feels unique. Perhaps is the warm feeling it gives me. Or I just love the smell of the wet dirt.

All I know is that is a nice thing to wake up to. That and the memories of last night. Of the whole friend group chilling in the boys cabin, with Elliot's head resting on my lap, and my fingers going through his hair. Agreeing to love each other and don't worry about the future was the best decision ever, this has been the best week by far.

Too bad that, not even 2 minutes after we wake up, someone starts knocking abruptly on our door. Way to ruin the vibe...

"Girls" We hear the person yell from outside, making it clear that It's Miss Rogers.

Maya jumps out of bed and opens the door quickly. A soaked in water teacher enters the cabin, closing the door behind her. She looks concerned.

"I just came here to announce that there has been a problem" She finally says after sighing deeply. We all look at her scared. What can be so important? She clearly came here running.

"The camp's main building flooded and it ruined many important cables, there's no electricity" She explains.

Shit.

"The main building is the only electricity source of the camp, so your cabins don't have light either" She continues.

Shit.

"The teachers and I are trying to find a solution. Meanwhile, I'm going to ask you to pack all your things. Just in case."

My face goes from intrigued to shocked. The girls's as well. It takes me a few seconds to assimilate what she is saying. The trip is being cut short.

We are ging home.

Elliot.

"So are we going home then?" Maya asks. The rest of us can't even pronounce a word.

"We don't know yet. We are discussing it." She answers, trying to sound as comforting as she can.

"What do we do after packing?" Lauren also asks. I'm scared of the answer.

For a second I think of the possibility of not being able to get out of the room and having to leave without saying goodbye to our friends. Without being able to see Elliot one last time.

"You'll have to stay here and wait for a teacher to come and get you" Miss Rogers answers.

My anxiety starts to raise. No, that can't happen. I need to see him.

"But we have friends we have to say goodbye to..." I say, and it comes out as a whisper.

"I know, but you have to be patient. There's nothing else none of us can do" My teacher tries to explain. I'm angry at her, even though I know I shouldn't be.

"We can go now and then come back" I quickly say, with a little bit of hope.

"I don't know if you realize that this is an electric storm, I can't let you take that risk"

I look out the window and suddenly the rain doesn't feel peaceful and warm, like it did 5 minutes ago. 'fuck you' I mentally curse the weather.

"I have to go now, try to cheer yourselves up" The teacher says smiling gently.

I want to scream at her that I can't do that, that it's her fault. But she doesn't control nature, just as I can't control the tears starting to fall as soon as she closes the door.
