The week goes by in the blink of an eye, nothing much happens. Waking up, my mom yelling, going to school, complaining with the girls about everything, going back home, changing, going to work at the bar, going back home. It made me realize how much I hate routines, they make life boring. Elliot and I talk every once in a while, but we always run out of things to say and the sparkle ends up only lasting a few seconds. When I hear his voice through the phone my heart starts beating fast, but then we both start babbling and everything gets too boring to continue, it's like nothing interesting happened in our lives, and even if it did, it's never worth the telling. Just like routines. The group chat we all have together is dead.
There's nothing left from that camp except the melancholy of the memories.
I look up to the sky while the girls and I are walking and I have to cover my eyes because of the brightness of the sun. We are all sweaty and tired after the long morning, but the happiness of the last day of school makes us forget about the problems, it's officially summer. The thought of spending the next three months surfing makes me smile. We get to my house and run upstairs to get changed so we can head to the beach. There's a lot of work to do for today's party and my mom wanted us to go help.
"I swear to god if I see another tourist i'm going to lose it" Lauren says mad as I tie up her bikini strings.
We all bite our lower lips in annoyance. Lauren has always had a problem with tourist, specially when summer starts. The party on the beach is like an annual welcoming for tourists and it marks the beggining of the holiday season, the happiest season for local workers, specially the ones that own businesses, like my mom.
"What even bothers you anyway?" Sophie says laughing and tieding her hair in a scrunchie.
"It's the ignorance and the lack of interest I can't stand" Lauren growls.
All of us look at her confused.
"None of them care about the culture of the place" She tries to explain, but we all crack up laughing.
"The... t-... THE CULTURE?!" Lily screams incredulously between laughs.
"What?" Lauren asks furious.
"Since when do you care about culture??"
We all continue to laugh all the way to the bar, where my mom is waiting for us with a box full of decorations and lights.
"What's so funny?" She wonders while she hands us everything.
"Nothing" Lauren hurries to say.
As soon as my mom enters the kitchen, we put on some music we like and we start hanging artificial flowers and lights all over the place.
Once we are done, we take off our clothes, leaving us in only our swimsuits and run to the sea. This time no surfer boards, just us.
I feel the warm water consuming my body as we all swim pass some waves. We don't go far though, just enough to get away from everyone. The seven of us lay on the water balancing our bodies so we don't drown. I feel my bones relax and my lungs filling with pure air.
"Do you guys know who is coming tonight?" Bella says, her eyes closed, like the rest of us.
"Do you?" I ask her.
"If I knew I wouldn't ask you dumbass" she snaps back.
"Then you say I'm the mean one..." Lauren pouts.
"Shh I like quiet" Francis scolds all of us.
"How can we be in quiet with all those tourists that-" Lauren begins.
