Prologue...

I could hear my parents arguing downstairs. I could hear my little sister throwing metal spoons at the wall. I could hear my grandmother whistling softly, trying to reason with my sister.

But the only thing on my mind: would they notice if I left?

My grandfather could read minds... sigh! But, he wasn't here at the moment, and the only other one in the family that could read minds was me.

I was a freak. My mother was a half-vampire. My father was a werewolf. My stepfather was a full vampire, just like the many members of my family. My stepmother was human, and I had a few different siblings.

It sucked being the oldest.

I was seventeen the next day, but all I wanted was to be normal. I hadn't grown or changed in two years! I was a monster...

I could kill if I wanted to.

My parents moved me to Alaska when I was almost two years old. Then, after a year, we moved to New Hampshire so that my mom and stepdad could go to college. And then, just a year ago, I was dragged back here to Forks because my whole family love the place to death.

What a joke!

In that time, I became a sister when my dad remarried my stepmom Neela. I have two brothers from them, Cray and Vince. I love Neela, but she seriously can't pick any names! My dad lives in Miami now, and is ageing gracefully.

The same can't be said for my mom and stepdad.

My little sister Olivia was only four years old... and a pain in the ass! She was more vampire than I was, given that her father was a full vampire. My stepdad Cody was turned into a vampire by my great-grandfather when he and my mom finished college. My mom was now a doctor, though she hadn't worked as one much...

For being immortals meant we had to be discreet. And I hated it. I just wanted to be normal...

I could hear a baby crying from downstairs. Ella, it must've been. Ella was a full baby vampire that was only six days old and growing quite quickly. She looked like a six-month old baby... REALLY!! It was truly amazing how things could be so different for immortals who looked just like humans.

Bored with my dull family life, I crept over to the open window. I quickly used my unique inhuman speed to get away before anyone noticed.

I was the master at escaping.
