Chapter One... Not The Girl I Was Supposed To Be

I sat high in a tree on the edge of the forest where me and my friends hung out. My parents would never find me here, unless they were actually looking for me. Here we could drink and smoke and be discreet from the rest of the world.

It was funny in this town that I was known as the "disappointment" in the Cullen family. My great-grandmother Esme was sweet and caring, and could make any human her friend. My great-grandfather Carlisle was a successful doctor, and God knows he's saved my life a lot! My grandmother Bella grew up around here, as well as in Phoenix, and therefore was well-known to be quiet and slightly shy. My grandfather Edward was known as intelligent and gifted. My mother Renesmee was known in the same sense of my grandfather, but she was immensely beautiful and captured the hearts of anybody she ever met. Even me, once upon a time. My father Jacob was known as strong, and stood as a well-known member of the Quileute tribe. Yes, he's unique, all right.

My stepfather Cody was once a footballer from Forks. Now he was a bloodsucking masochist who had fallen under my mother's spell. Typical.

But me? No. I wasn't about to let my family "traditions" tie me to my vampire ancestry. Hell no.

My family consisted of humans, though. My great-grandfather Charlie, God rest his soul, was human. He was the chief of police in Forks before he retired. Now he'd passed away, just two short years ago. He was really the only person I ever thought sane in my family. And he understood me. I could talk to him about anything, and he'd listen. Knowing about my family, and the fact that his own daughter got sucked into it, I can really see why he felt so understanding of me. Not only did I belong to a family that should have been institutionalized, but I also didn't fit in. I was every bit unique as my mother, only she had others in the world who were like her.

No. I was the daughter of a half-vampire and a werewolf that was actually a shape-shifter. Go figure.

The only thing I wanted in my life was to be normal. But I wasn't. I would never age another day, and I'd discovered that human suicides don't work on me. I just heal. I was destined to live forever, to forever be frozen exactly as I am.

How depressing!

My grandmother Bella said I should just be grateful. Life handed me this because it was who I was meant to be. What a load of crap! I was forced into this because my parents didn't see the sense in birth control and couldn't keep their legs closed long enough to realise how stupid they were!

I was a joke!

"Iz, we scored some hash," I heard my mate Dewey call from the ground.

"Did you get my cigs?" I called back.

"Yeah," Dewey replied. "You gotta come down and get them though, because I'm afraid of heights and I'm not gonna go up there and give them to you."

"Chicken shit," I muttered, beginning to climb down from the tree.

My black hair suited my personality perfectly. Add dark makeup to my porcelain face and black punk clothes and I looked like a gothic high-schooler. I pulled my hair into a bun after my feet landed squarely on the ground.

"You could be in a circus, Iz," Jenaya said from behind me.

"Uh, hell no," I scoffed.

"How do you get down from the tree so fast?" Dewey asked, nervously looking up.

"Pure talent," I smirked.

"My parents think I'm at your crib, Iz," Lizzie said, coming and snatching a cigarette from Dewey.

"Beat it, Lizzie!" Dewey snapped.

"Kiss my ass!" Lizzie retorted.

"So Adam and I did it last night," Jenaya said, looking around for any intruders. "Last guy I slept with was no where near as cute, and was a total junkie!"

"Adam's a total junkie, Nay," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Oh, but he's a hot junkie," Jenaya grinned.

Dewey slapped her up the side of the head.

"Wake up to yourself, Nay!" Lizzie snapped. "He's a loser, and if you get involved with a loser like that they're gonna find your corpse in a Seattle alleyway with track marks and evident signs that you were beaten and raped."

"Oh, you're such a drama queen!" Jenaya scoffed.

"At least I can tell the truth!" Lizzie sneered.

"Oh please!" Jenaya retorted. "Your mom thinks you're staying at Isabelle's house!"

"So unrelated," Lizzie scoffed.

"Grow up, will you!" I interjected, lighting a cigarette.

"Butt out, Iz!" Jenaya snapped.

"Yeah, Iz," Lizzie added. "Jenaya doesn't like to know she's losing the argument."

Whilst they argued, I heard a familiar sound of footsteps approaching. I looked around as my Aunt Rosalie came into view.

"What the hell, Izzie?" Rosalie asked, looking shocked. "Does your mother know you're here? Or worse, your father?!"

"Back off, Aunt Rose," I snapped, rolling my eyes. "My parents couldn't care what I was up to."

"Like hell they couldn't!" Rosalie snapped back. "I thought you were more... mature than cigarettes and drug addicts."

"Then you thought wrong," I answered coldly.

"I am calling your mother," Rosalie said, pulling out her cell phone. I snatched it off of her.

"I wouldn't, Aunt Rose," I threatened. "You could get hurt."

"Oh, by you?" Rosalie asked sarcastically. "You could try, but just remember who I am, and who you're not."

"I'm less of a freak, if that's what you mean," I sneered.

"If Tamsin spoke to me the way you did, she'd have been burnt alive by now," Rosalie said coldly. "She's not too much younger than you, remember?"

"But Tamsin's a freak, just like you," I snapped.

Ah, Tamsin. Rosalie had my pretentious little second cousin not long after we moved to Alaska. It was gruesome, to say the least. But she was Rosalie's only child, and therefore the pride and joy of her mother and father. Her father who had taught her how to hunt, how to be a vampire... the things my parents tried to teach me.

And evidently, they failed miserably.

I stood in front of Rosalie, thinking about how much my family had grown since I was born. My mom Renesmee was the first child born to one of the Cullens. Then, me, of course. But then came Tamsin... After that, Alice and Jasper welcomed Xander, the first male offspring. Then they brought a second child, Harry, into their family. It was so odd, because we all thought that vampires couldn't conceive at all. Until Rosalie fell pregnant. Then Alice. Then Alice again! And these girls were FULL vampires!

It didn't make sense.

But then Bella and Edward got a surprise just after we moved back here when one day, out of nowhere, Bella realised something was inside her. Now you'd think since she'd been pregnant before that she'd notice it. But no. She didn't.

And that's how my Aunt Ella came into existence. Named after both her parents, Ella Ali-Rose Cullen was special just like her sister. MY mother.

And poor Ella had no idea what her older, more mischevious neice was like yet. Poor girl had yet to have a chance!

But in all due time, the world would know me for me and not as Renesmee Cullen's daughter. Or Renesmee Marshall, as she went these days...

I was definitely not the girl I was supposed to be... And I didn't care.
