I look over the city. The child I've raised for over 100 years. My son is dead. His death came by his soulbound. My granddaughter will take my place.

A knock sounds on my door. "Let her in," I say in a dusty voice. My butler opens the door and my granddaughter walks in. Her face is grim.

I walk towards her slowly. My cane supports me. "Caroline..... what brings you here?"

"Grandfather, we've finished the search."

"And?"

She breathes deeply. "We're the only city left.

I turn around and walk back to the window. "It's what I've feared Caroline. Ever since the soulbounding began the worlds gone to chaos. This city will follow."

"Grandfather...."

"Don't try to sooth me Caroline..... the world is doomed, and by the world I mean this city.... we're all going to die."

"Not all of us surely."

"Oh yes. Once the fighting begins so many will die. You kill one but you've actually killed two. A hundred becomes two hundred and so on." I turn around to look at Caroline. "Don't tell me there's any hope..... because there isn't."

She stares at me with sorrowful eyes. I turn around.

"Grandfather."

I sigh. "Yes Caroline?"

"I'm sorry."

A loud ring goes through the room. My cane falls from my hands and I hit the floor. Another ring.

My stomach hurts. I clench it as I slowly fade away.

The last thing I see is my city. The last thing I hear is Caroline walking out the door.
