Outside the citizens of New York march. I lock my doors. The footsteps can be heard going to the city headquarters.

I sit at my table. The fighting is stupid. The mayor might be dead but soon mayor Caroline will take her role as mayor.

A few days ago the mayor was murdered and no one investigated. The city was outraged. Marches on the headquarters have taken place everyday. Today things are taking a turn.

The marches used to be peaceful. This one will be deadly. Civilians carry anything that could be used to fight.

Someone knocks on my door. I know who it is.

"I'm not coming Aaron," I say in an annoyed voice.

"Come on Shane."

"No."

"Pleeeeeease."

"No!"

"You don't have to fight.... y-you could write! You could write in your Newspaper thing!"

It's true. I work for The New York Times newspaper. This could make a story. I bite my lip.

"Fine..... I'll come."

"Awesome."

I stand up and grab a notepad. Then a pen. I walk to the door and open it. Aaron stands there. A pistol in his hands.

"What the h***?," I ask.

"What? It's just a gun."

"Where'd you even get it?"

"Found it." I stare him straight in in his blue eyes. "Fine.... I stole it."

I sigh. "Let's go... don't wanna get left behind," I say. The crowd is leaving us.

We start to run. The moon shines overhead making the pavement sparkle. When we do catch up we end up stuck in the back.

The crowd starts yelling. I look up. At the top of the road (we the road is on a hill) stands ten guards. They shoot their guns in the air. The sound is to loud. There must be more standing behind them.

"You sure about this?," I ask Aaron.

"F*** yeah man."

"There's a lot of guards up there... a lot of guns."

"We know and killing as many as we can will show we're a cause to reckoned with."

Suddenly the crowd stops. At the very front they're face to face. Me and Aaron stand in the very back. My he crowd screams and yells at the guards. This goes on for a few minutes.

Then, the fire erupts. Someone throws a knife at one of the guards. It misses.

Gunfire rips through the air. People start to fall in the front. When a guard's Soulbound is killed another comes and takes his place.

I stand in shock as bullets fly overhead. I feel something grab my arm. It's Aaron. He pulls me into an alley to the side.

"You stay here and write... I'll keep you alive."

I sit down against the wall while Aaron shoots around the corner. I can't write. What I just saw still grips me with fear. If Aaron hadn't pulled me is probably still be standing........ or maybe even be dead.

I hear a painful scream. It's Aaron. He looks at me as I look at him.

"F****** get out if here."

"Aaron we have to go now." I walk over to him to pick him up. He aims the gun at me. "I said get out of here." His finger lies on the trigger.

I back away. Then I hear the sound of guards. I turn around and run. I've almost gotten away when I fall. Right off the edge. Into the slums of the city and probably to my death.
