Chapter 5: His Gazes

Sev's PoV

I really don't think I heard correctly.

This. ...human wants to give. ...me...a ride home ?

Ha, right when I thought he had no sense of humor.

This was hilarious.

I couldn't hold it in any longer, my unsensored laughter rang throughout the air, startling Braxton and causing me to laugh even harder.

"Whats so funny?" I met his light eyes that were staring darkly at me.

I sobered up with a snort and replied.

"Just for this moment, Im going to entertain your nonsense and wonder why you would want me to go anywhere with you". My voice was filled with amusement as I confidently held his gaze.

He remained silent.

"Aren't you going to answer me"? My head tilted involuntarily with my question.

This time he placed his hands in his pockets, tilted his head and answered mockingly.

"Technically, you haven't asked a question ". His eyes danced with amusement, however his face was blank.

I stared him dead in his eyes, challenging him to answer my indirect question.

I was really not in a good mood today ,from the events from lastnight with my dad, to me leaving school with a stained atire and this wall of confusion scrutinizing my every move.

He made no signs of answering my indirect question.

But I used this time to do some uninterrupted scrutinizing myself.

My eyes studied every detail of his body, from his sharp brows, his birthmark, to a scar on his neck, almost invisible at first glance.
Before I could get a better look at the scarred skin, he shifted his hoodie and took a step back.

Before I could even attempt to stop myself, I asked

"How'd you get that scar?"

I watched as his stoic expression turned to one of irritation then he rolled his eyes before he masked the look with his regular nonchalant one. But something told me in that moment that he felt more than irritation.

"Hop on my bike, or walk home. "

I stared him dead in the eyes as I walked backwards towards my car, got in and closed the door after I got in. As my car roared to life, by the turn of my key, I screwed down the glass to give the jerk a perfect view of my favorite finger as I pressed on the gas pedal.

But he did nothing, he just stood there with a conceited smug on his face.

But I finally understood all my unanswered questions.

Instead of speeding out of the parking lot, Suzie moved an inch forward only to make a loud farting sound.

No, no no no

I had a flat tyre.

Of all the years, months, weeks, days and hours, it just had to be this blessed second.

My gaze left the steering wheel to the spotless roof of my car.

Why me?

For an entire minute, I thought about just staying in the car and wait until the next morning, but who am I kidding, I was in dire need of a shower and the comforts of my burgundy cotton sheets.

Grumbling a string of unidentifiable words I grabbed my bag that I had placed  in the passenger seat and I opened the car door , my left foot reluctantly stepped out followed by the right.

I kept my eyes down, staring at the faded out black stripes on my converse.

Get a grip Sev.

Being met with silence, I lifted my gaze to find Braxton not staring at me, but rather on his bike with an impatient look across his features, however, his amusement and satisfaction in my embarrassment was not hidden.

I walked over, counting each step still contemplating whether or not I should just walk the journey home.
A sigh left my lips when I realised that the 13 feet gap was closed.

"Here". He handed me a black helmet with a gold star aligned at the center.

With another sigh I took the heavy helmet and easily  hopped on the sleek motorcycle.
I ignored Braxton's inquisitive eyes and latched the straps of the protective gear.

This was by no means my first or third time on a two wheeled vehicle, but I was never the cyclist, always the passenger.

The unexpected roar and takeoff of the bike caused me to gasp and clutch onto the torso directly in front of me.

The three states of matter

Gas, liquid and Braxton.

Pure muscles laid beneath my fingers causing me to interlock my fingers to get a better grip.
The bike halted suddenly infront the exit of the parking lot as Braxton loosend my grip and hopped of the bike.

"Why did you stop"? I voiced my thoughts.

Instead of replying, he took both my hands and placed them behind me to grip two leather handles that I didn't  notice.

Of course he didn't want me to touch me.

I cleared my throat to mask my embarrassment and remained silent as he got back on and started the engine.

"Left or right?" He asked as we approached the the intersection infront of the school.

Oh right....directions.

A number of 'lefts, rights and go straights' later we were on the straight road leading to my street.

Even though my hands were no longer clutched around him, he became visibly tense as we went further down. I lived in a relatively safe neighborhood, so I was confused as to why he was tense.

"The grey house on the left". I pointed to my house as I  inwardly sighed when I realised that the lot was empty.

I swung my legs over when he stopped in the driveway but kept the engine running.

My eyes searched up to his face but couldn't meet his since his gaze was focused on the house infront of him.
I wasn't sure how to describe the look on his face as he scrutinized my house. After about 30 seconds of findling with the straps on my bag and watching him stare, I decided to clear my throat.

His eyes finally descended on mine and a weird look crossed his features.

Well then.

"Tha-" "Before I could express my appreciation, the sound of Braxton's bike cut me off as he sped down the road.

And I thought I was bipolar.

With another sigh I turned on the heels of my feet and aproached the oak wood door as I sought to find the right key.
I then realised that everything in my vision was a hazy grey.
I brought my hands to my eyes only to be met with a smooth gear.

I immediately turned around even though I knew he was far gone.

"Dammit".

He forgot his helmet.
