First match new season
It was that time of the year again. The fresh start of a brand new season 'Eredivisie Vrouwen'. Daniëlle was determined to make this season an unforgettable one. Not only because it was her last season. Also not only because she had such an incredible season last season. But mainly because she really wanted to impress the world. She wanted to make the world know the name "Daniëlle van de Donk". Daniëlle has always been a big fan of Arsenal. When she was young, Daan and her dad had visited the Emirates stadium a couple of times and also watched some Arsenal games there. Those were unforgettable memories for her. She loved the club with all of her heart and made it her goal to play a season that would be good enough to get the attention of Arsenal scouts.
However, Daniëlle also spoke about her dream and her goal for this season with her coach. He immediately told her that this was an amazing goal, but also a bit unreal. He said that it hardly ever happened that a player transfered to England straight from the 'Eredivsie vrouwen' since the Dutch league was quite small and unknown in the rest of Europe.Daniëlle focused 100% on her goal with every match she played, every training she completed, and every time she stepped on to a football field. Last season was incredible for her. She scored an extraordinary amount of goals and gave an amazing amount of assists, which led to her being able to make a big step in her career.
The Dutch national team was quite unknown at that time, but Daan was already playing in it. She knew that the World Cup was coming in the summer of 2015, so right after this season. Daniëlle (and the rest of the Dutch national team as well) saw the World Cup as a chance to let the world see who those Dutchies really are and what we were capable of, whilst also seeing as an extra chance to let the world, and hopefully Arsenal, remember her name.
But first: Danielle's last season at PSV. She was ready for it, mentally and physically. She had no injuries and nothing else on her mind. She started the season off with a very tough game against Ajax. PSV won the league last season, but Ajax ended second with only a 3 point difference. Daniëlle and her whole team knew they had to win this game, even though it was the first of the season.
Daan was in the starting XI, as she expected. She scored and gave an assist in the first half already! Even though she had some nerves, she couldn't be stopped in the second half. She finished the match with an amazing amount of 4 goal contributions scoring a hattrick and giving an assist. Since Daan always played as a central attacking midfielder, these kind of statistics were quite unusual, almost extraordinary. She was extremely happy with the way she kicked off the new season, and so was her coach. In the matches that followed Daan made some amazing performances. She dribbled past defenders like they never existed. She scored goals the world had never seen before. She gave passes in a way no-one else did or even could. She was crowned player of the month 2 times already in just the first half of the season. But the question stayed in her head: "would these performances be enough pick up the attention of Arsenal?".
Daan continued with the season after the winter break. During the winter, she trained hard to improve her free kicks. Daan wasn't known as a free kick taker in games normally, but wanted to show the club what she got and asked her teammates to let her take the next free kick.
It was the 89th minute in a match against ADO Den Haag. It was an important match. They had to win this game, to keep their spot on top he top of the league table as AJAX was close behind. Daniëlle was allowed to take the free kick somewhere around 21 meters from the goal. She and her team knew this could give them the win if Daniëlle would score this free kick. Daniëlle stayed calm and walked backwards a little. She stood there, waiting for the referee to blow her whistle. *PFEEWT*. Daniëlle ran towards the ball as she knew exactly where she would kick it; top bins. BAM! it flew over the wall and straight into the left top corner. There was no way the goalkeeper of ADO could've ever saved it! Daniëlle was extremely proud of herself, and so was her team, her coach, but most importantly: her family.PSV managed to win the league once again, back to back. Daniëlle fulfilled her goal to the fullest and was extremely proud. She was crowned player of the month 3 times in one season; something that had never been done before. There was no doubt, she knew it for sure, there was no way that Daan didn't pick up the attention of Arsenal! She couldn't have played a better season then this one.
To thank Daniëlle for everything, PSV made a cute video.
Now it was time to set all her focus on the national team. She wanted to play an amazing World Cup and help the national team to get as far as possible. She still saw this is a chance to make even more good impressions with her eyes focused on her big transfer coming up.
