Running from the Sky

I couldn't believe that I had ran away like that! I wasn't sure where I was going. I just wanted to find July! Then, I realized that I had ran to another town! "July!" I yelled. "Come out!"

I then noticed that I was in the city. It was their city! I looked up. A sign read, 'The Town of the Rulers.' The Rulers? What an ignorant name! We could take our land back from those lazy jerks!

I was plotting my revenge when suddenly a man walked up to me. "Are you an orphan?" he asked me. "Did your parents get killed by the slaves?"

"Excuse me," I said. "What did you mean by that? Killed by the slaves?"

"Didn't you hear about the protest? A bunch of slaves ran into people's homes. They killed some people who they disliked."

"What happened to the slaves?" I asked. "Did they get away?"

"No. Why do you doubt our authorities?"

I then had the perfect idea. I would work on the inside! "I don't!" I said. "The slaves went inside my house and... Um... Killed my parents. Then I escaped out the window!"

"What's your name?" he asked me.

"I'm Ellie!" I said. My name actually was Ellie. It was a little too happy for me so people called me Ell. I didn't have a last name so I would have to make one up.

"My last name is... Runner," I said. Runner? What was I thinking!? "Where should I go?" I asked. "My clothes are ruined and my family can't take care if me!" My eyes brimmed with fake tears. I was good at fake crying.

"Maybe the Ziltins will let you move in with them," the man explained. "They want a polite young girl to adopt. You would be perfect."

I fake sniffed. "I'm twelve," I said. I was fourteen but even though I was short, I was a fast runner.

"Come with me," he said. "I will take you to the Ziltin's house." "Thank you," I said.

I might live with the Ruiner people for a while, but I would NOT go to their side! I would spy on them. That's it. And I'll find July! I hope that my people will win. I'll do everything I can.
