Who's That?

I awoke with a groan when I hit the ground. Looking around, I noticed I had no idea where I was. Or did I? Oh, just my neighbor's backyard. I guess I must've went to sleep in their tree last night. Again. I stood up when I started to feel the cold snow take over my body. Winter was an ice cold girl. Unforgiving, as always. She comes around every year, colder than the last, followed by spring, warm and cozy. I was interrupted from my thoughts when my whole body was shaken by my neighbor, Brianna. "Snap out of your stupid dream world, idiot!"

"Sorry. I'm here. What's up?" I asked casually.

"What's up? I should be asking you that since it seems you slept in my tree in the freezing cold! What's up with that?!" She literally almost screamed.

"I really can't answer that with an honest explanation. I have no idea how I got into your backyard." I replied slowly, starting to get cold in just my jeans and a black t-shirt.

"Well go get home, and ready for school! You're gonna be late!"

Right. School. I run through Brianna's yard, jump the small fence, and run into my house quickly, hoping my mom and her fiancé are either at work or asleep. Fortunately enough, they were both sound asleep in their room. I quietly ran into my room, throwing on a new pair of jeans, and a sweater that was a bit to big for me. I went into the bathroom and brushed my dirty blonde hair to the side, and of course, used the restroom. After doing that, I ran back into my room, put on my shoes, and made a mad dash for the school.

Our house was a little bit too close to the school to take the bus, plus I like walking alone, or with Brianna. Speaking of Brianna, I saw her walking quickly towards the school. I decided to run faster than I already was in order to catch up to her.

"Hey, what's up?" I said as I caught up with her.

"Oh you know. Just walking to the radioactive power plant to save some puppies from the Grinch. The usual." She said sarcastically.

"Oh harr dee harr harr." I replied as we finally walked into the school.

If you didn't already know, despite her slightly rude manner, Brianna and I have been the best of friends, ever since sixth grade. We know each other better than the back of our hands. We sat down next to each other in front of the lockers and talked until the bell rang.

After making my way through the traffic in the halls, I walked into my first class; Science. One if my favorite subjects. I've been an all "A" student in science since like, forever.

The teacher called roll, but afterwards she did something I didn't expect, especially during the middle of the school year. She told us there was going to be a new student coming in today. Everyone started chatting amongst themselves about who it might be and so on and so on. As if on cue, a boy who looked around 16 walked in with a black backpack on his back. He stood there, looking at the class with his dark blue eyes and dark brown hair.

"Class, this is Duncan Williams. He will be sitting next to James Braus." The teacher said, breaking the silence in the classroom. Wait, that's me. James Braus. Oh great. I get to sit next to the new guy. How wonderful. Not
