I had always been an upstanding human being. I voted. I smiled chastely when the time called for it, and frowned when it didn't. I always said 'please' and 'thank you' and did as I was told. I was lucky in life, with a loving father, and a sometimes loving mother, hailing from a brick plantation-style mansion in the suburbs of Tennessee. My own perfect polished little bubble, complete with pretty cotillion dresses and private school uniforms. My life had always been careful and structured, but also incredibly boring. That is, until that summer. The summer where my entire life was turned upside down, shattered, and then stitched crookedly back together again. The summer when I met him.
