Ever since the announcement of this new disease, everyone in Japan has been quite worried and I saw on the news some horrific footage of people quickly getting supplies from supermarkets and other minimarkets. There were confirmed to now be at least 300 cases in Japan even though last time there were only 50 but once I heard it, I got a little shocked. I got a little worried but I had to calm my mother down a bit since she was worried the most. Oh well its time to get my work done.
Once I got to school, everything was surprisingly normal, not a word about the disease was spoken. In my mind, humanity could never beat a disease without casualty and death is what all haunts us but we don't know that we are also responsible for how we deal things. It's only a matter of time until things officially start to spin out of control and that's where we should be really scared. After school ended, I went to my clubroom but surprisingly Sora wasn't there to greet me or to walk with me but I didn't get too worried about him. I finally arrived and yet again I'm the first one in the place and then I heard the door open, it was Yui.
I greeted her and she seemed more upset than yesterday so I started to talk to her. "Yui how are you?" She didn't reply to me, in fact she ignored me but my selflessness kicked in at the wrong time. "What's going on? You seem down" This time she said "I'm scared." I was scared about seeing her being genuinely afraid because she's always so cheerful and positive and I knew that I had to help her. I asked her what was wrong but she didn't give an answer until she took a deep breath and told me something that I never knew about her. "You see, I have a older brother who currently lives in the epicentre of this disease and so far he hasn't been returning my calls so I'm getting a lot of anxiety about this situation. My brother has affected me in many ways and I consider him to be the father I never had because my dad was always so abusive to everyone but mostly to me. Ever since he got sent to prison for domestic abuse, my brother took care of me like I was his daughter. He's 19 and he moved out for college and we usually always talked whenever he had the chance but now he hasn't talked to me in 2 weeks. I'm scared Akano, and Sakura disappearing hasn't made it better at all."
This feeling, I had this feeling before but this seems way more intense and its coming from the person I'd least expect it to be. I sit quiet without saying a word or moving a muscle while I see Yui's tears falling and I could hear them slamming against the wooden table. I hesitated but I finally found the right words to say to her, "everything is gonna be fine Yui, you don't need to worry about your brother too much since he's already old and strong enough to deal with anything and so are you. If you could survive years with a abusive father then you're the strongest person I know, everything will be fine and Sakura is gonna come this week trust me. Even if you're scared always know we're scared as well and you're never alone with this because many people are dealing with the same situation but never give up on your brother and yourself." After I said that, she gave me a look of hope and its a look that I've never received before but it looks like she's better from just hearing that. After Yui seemed to improve, we started to work on our stuff but it was just us two and I'm glad that I learned something new about Yui. We both ended the day knowing more about each other and I'm glad that I could do something for something.
I guess I'm not so useless in this world after all.END OF CHAPTER 2
