"go back inside, kid," derek didn't even have to look back at stiles to know it was him.
"how'd you know it was me? i coulda been scott," stiles said defensively, ignoring dereks comments completely and still attempting to catch up to him.
"cause i heard you trip over the doorframe. scott watches where he steps, unlike you," derek explained. he still didn't look back.
"how do you know that?" stiles asked, his voice raising in defense. he could barely keep up with dereks pace.
"you'll see," derek could feel stiles eyes piercing the side of his head. he didn't turn to face him.
"how-"
just then, stiles ate shit. he didn't realize there was a curb he was stepping off of, and the sudden drop off had him propelling towards the ground, face first. thankfully, he was able to stop himself with his hands before his face was skinned raw from the concrete.
derek kept walking regardless. "scott watches where he steps," derek called out again, still facing forward. stiles stood up quickly, glancing at his palms. they were only a little skinned from the impact, other than that he was okay.
derek assumed he'd proved his point with stiles' downfall, but apparently he hadn't. he heard stiles rapid footsteps behind him, desperate to catch up.
"what do you want, kid?" he asked. stiles dusted off his hands with a deep breath before he continued.
"i just think we shouldn't start off on the wrong foot when we first meet," stiles suggested. derek didn't look at him.
"we're not gonna be friends, kid. leave me alone," derek said. his pace didn't slow, the detection he looked didn't change, his breath didn't hitch.
"i think we are. you'll like to have me around eventually," stiles said confidently, "just like scott did, and lydia and allison, and isaac snd jackson. they all hated me, but they cane around. you will too."
"you're just wrong, stilinski," derek said shortly. stiles stopped in his tracks. only for a second though, to state his confusion, but derek hadn't stopped with him so he had to keep moving.
"how do you know my last name?" stiles asked him, pushing further towards derek as they walked, stiles practically ran. he leaned as far towards him as he could, got deep into his personal space. derek still didn't look up down at him.
"none of your business," derek mumbled. he did stutter a little.
"it's literally my last name? it is my business," stiles eyebrows furrowed together as he spoke.
he got closer to derek as they walked, his footsteps in time with him as he could smell the cologne derek used, they were so close. he used a lot of cologne, he noted. he didn't take him to have such expensive taste, despite the luxury leather he coated himself in. he had a hand on dereks shoulder, pulling him closer. derek subtly pushed him off.
"it's just your last name, kid. most people know it. get over it," derek shrugged.
finally, body language.
"yeah, but scott just introduced us and he only said 'derek, this is stiles. stiles, derek' and that was it. no last name," stiles said. he seemed to have just discovered the worlds biggest secret. he wasn't as smart as he thought he was.
"drop it," derek muttered. stiles sighed.
"alright, fine. for now," he mumbled. he did give up.
"for now?" derek asked. he finally turned to stiles, stopping in the sidewalk.
sterek let out a deep breath with a smile on his face as he looked derek in the eye. dereks eyes searched stiles, in attempt to find out what his intentions were.
"im glad you're looking at me now," stiles said sweetly, staring up at derek and clasping his hands together innocently.
derek rolled his eyes. "what do you mean, for now, stiles?" he asked again.
"we're gonna spend lots of time together. i'll be sure of it," stiles said. he continued to smile at derek.
derek let out a disappointed huff. "i doubt you will," he replied. he turned away from stiles and continued to walk.
"nope, i will. i'll get all the others in on it too. they're gonna help me with my plan. if i have to, i will get us locked in a room together for hours, days even. you'll like me, derek. one way or another. or at least tolerate me," he said confidently. he was sure of himself.
he continued to walk alongside derek, almost talking more to himself than his new friend.
"i already hate you, stilinski," derek said. he was back to facing a single direction, steady breathing, expression never altering.
"no you don't," stiles smiled.
"i do," derek replied.
"no you don't!" he said. he grabbed on to dereks arm. the older shook him off.
"i do."
"no!"
"yes i do."
"no you don't."
"i really do now," derek said. he stopped, pushing stiles chest. he pushed him against the wall of the nearest building, pinning him against it with one hand to the middle of his chest. stiles shoulder blades dug into the brick behind him. "in fact, if you don't shut the fuck up now you better know what kind of casket you want at your funeral, stilinski." with that, derek released him and continued to walk. stiles caught up with him quickly after a bit of recovery.
"no you don't," he simply didn't back down. he was too stubborn to lose an argument so childish.
derek waited a few seconds. he contemplated replying.
"i do."
"oh my gosh, that's a cute puppy!" stiles exclaimed excitedly. he pointed to the head of a dog outside a car. "and yeah you do."
"no i don't-"
"aha! i got you! you don't!"
stiles was way too proud of himself. derek scoffed.
the younger was way too excited with himself and didn't notice derek stepping off the the side, towards a car pulling up on the side of the road.
"see you, stilinski," he called out, and stiles only caught his eye for a second before derek disappeared into the car.
stiles watched the car go in disbelief, reconciling over his conversation with derek, and then realized he had no idea where he was.
