stiles waited for the rest of his friends to go their separate ways before leaving the school to find derek's car. he found it in the same spot it was in the morning, and he tried to nonchalantly make his way over.

he jumped in quickly, and derek welcomed the kiss he gave him as soon as he got in.

"how was school?" derek asked him, quickly pulling out of the parking lot and started to vaguely remember how to get to his house from the school.

"your sister asked me out," stiles said defeatedly, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned back into the seat.

"she did what?" he turned to look at stiles briefly before looking back at the road.

"she asked me to come over today to study," he said, which had derek glancing at him again, angrier this time. "but i told her you were coming over today so tomorrow would be better."

derek furrowed his eyebrows. "but we're having family over tomorrow," derek mumbled, and stiles looked at him.

"then why would she say it was okay?" he asked, and derek rolled his eyes.

"i dunno, she must have forgotten," derek said, "but you're not coming."

"why not?"

"because my whole family will be there, and you won't even be able to study," derek explained bitterly.

"derek.."

"im serious. im telling her you're busy," he pulled his phone out to text his sister once they reached a stop sign.

he reached out to grab derek's wrist. "are you just saying no because you're jealous, or because your whole family's gonna be there?" he asked quietly.

derek didn't soften, like he normally did. he didn't try to comfort stiles this time.

"we'll talk when we get to your house," he said through gritted teeth. stiles couldn't tell if derek was angry at him or his sister.

stiles didn't talk for the rest of the drive home, and he still didn't talk when he made his way into his house.

"stiles," derek called out from behind him, following him into his room.

"i get if you don't want me to meet your family but you could be nicer about it," he said quietly. that was the first time stiles was genuinely upset with him.

"stiles," he said again. he reached stiles, who was seated on his bed. he cupped his face in his hands.

"i want you to meet my family," he said finally, and stiles stared up at him. "but i don't want you to meet them cause my sister accidentally invited you when she forgot we had family," he finished.

stiles kept staring at him, his eyes sad.

"tomorrow would be great for you to meet them, because everyone is there," he continued, caressing stiles' cheeks with his thumbs. "but i can't let it be an accident. i don't want you to show up when everyone's there and they think they're gonna have to like bond with some kid cora has a crush on and was there by accident," he sat down next to stiles.

"and i can't tell them all i really want them to bond with you when you show up because then cora will know something's up," stiles nodded. "so if you're gonna meet them, it'll be when i properly introduce you to them as somebody who's important to me."

stiles smiled at him softly. derek kissed him shortly.

"and besides, i don't want them thinking you're cora's new boyfriend," he said.

"so you're jealous?" stiles grinned, and derek rolled his eyes.

he leaned forward like he was going to kiss stiles, but then he pulled back and denied stiles what he wanted. "i'm not jealous of my sister."
