stiles' head was resting on derek's chest, feeling the rise and fall of it when he breathed. his fingers wrote letters into the skin of his stomach, and his leg was risen over derek's thighs. derek's fingers traced circles around the bone of stiles' ankle.
"what do you think my spirit animal would be?" he asked, and derek let out a laugh. "what?"
"like what animal represents you the most? like your personality and stuff. i think you'd be.." he thought for a minute, and then thought about how protective derek was of himself and his friends. "a wolf."
derek smiled down at him, and stiles looked up to meet his eye.
"why a wolf?"
"cause you're only really close to a few people, and you trust them a lot. and you'd do anything to protect them. and you're the strongest out of all of us. and you're the oldest, so you're like the leader. the most responsible. like a wolf, but like the leader of a wolf pack," he shrugged, and he interlocked his fingers with derek's spare hand.
"i mean, i guess. i feel like you'd be.."
he and stiles barely knew each other, but stiles' mischievous and flirtatious manner was easy to spot. it was a pure talent, how he could dance on the line of trouble without ever crossing it.
"a fox," he said finally. stiles' eyebrows furrowed up at him, but he smiled anyway. "why?"
"cause you're all chaotic and sly," he squeezed his fingers a little bit, and stiles scoffed. "am not."
"you are," derek retorted, pinching his ankle.
"mm-mm," he shook his head at derek, who rolled his eyes.
"you are, thats the whole reason we're dating," derek said, and stiles' eyes widened.
"we're dating?" he asked, lifting his head up. derek grinned, but he nodded. "i thought so, yeah."
"you're the one who got me half naked by playing tricks on me, and you bit me, and you gave me hickies, even though you know everyone's gonna see them," stiles pointed out, and derek laughed. "and the whole time you weren't even sporting wood."
"that's just cause i know you'll do what i want, you cant deny how mischievous you are," derek shrugged, and stiles pursed his lips. "i guess."
"i still wanna know what you were doing with that lipstick," stiles said after a while, and derek shook his head. "you'll find out. i have a plan," derek convinced him.
they lay like that for a while, mostly in silence. every now and then stiles would say the random things that came to his head, derek would reply snarkily or tell him to be quiet, and eventually they fell asleep.
when they woke up, stiles was practically on top of derek, but derek didn't really mind. his eyes fluttered open slowly, and he welcomed the warmth on top of him. he hugged him closer, breathing him in.
"morning," stiles mumbled, hugging derek back. derek hummed in response.
"what are we doing today?" stiles slid off of him, curling into his side. he stared at the side of the tent in case somebody was going to open it.
"im not sure. we're kinda just like going by ear," derek said. his voice was still deep from sleep.
"i like your voice like that," stiles commented, and derek smiled. he genuinely enjoyed how confident stiles was, and how he wasn't embarrassed of anything that came out of his mouth.
"hmm? like what?" he pulled stiles closer and let his lips brush against his ear.
"all deep n stuff," he pressed a kiss onto derek's cheek.
