melissa mccall had come accustomed to isaac spending most of his days at her house with her son, what with his lacking father and all.

she liked isaac. he was sweet, and polite. it wasn't just to get on her good side, he was genuinely a sweet person. she trusted him, in her home and with her son.

she never listened in on their conversations, because it wouldn't kill her to be unaware of every little thing going on in her son's life. but she chose her days, and this was one of them. she was bringing a basket of scott's laundry up to his room, but something caught her ear.

scott and isaac lay in scott's bed, spooning.

it sounded strange, but hear me out. since scott and stiles always spooned, due to stiles' picky sleeping conditions. it was like that since they first met, and they never grew out of it. but scott had been dating allison, and he always cuddled with her. alas, moving between people he slept with always meant they cuddled, and he couldn't sleep without it. isaac, being the generous guy he is, offered to assist him.

scott's head rested between isaac's shoulderblades, his arm draped over his waist.

"i think allison's gonna break up with me soon," he mumbled. melissa stopped in her tracks and pressed her back against the wall.

isaac turned to him. "huh?"

"i think she's gonna break up with me," he repeated.

"why?" isaac took to comfort him, slowly rubbing his arm up and down. scott shuffled closer.

"she's being really distant.. like the whole time we were in arizona when we were in the tent it was like we were friends. when we were with everyone, she wouldn't leave lydia's side," scott shrugged.

"maybe she's just having a couple off days," isaac mumbled. scott shook his head.

"no.. she's been like this for a while. she's just different now," he stared at isaac's moving hand.

"are you okay?" isaac asked him. he heard scott sigh against him.

scott shuffled up onto the pillows, and isaac turned on his back.

the bed didn't allow for much room between two teenage boys anyway.

"maybe i'm just realizing i'm okay with it," he said quietly.

"you're okay with it?" scott slowly looked up at him, and nodded.

"the only reason im not trying to get her to love me again is because im okay with it," he answered.

"so did you both lose feelings for each other?" isaac turned his head to look at him. scott nodded.

"that's why im okay with it i guess. im just waiting for it to happen," he shrugged.

"so if she breaks up with you are you gonna be like super heart broken?" isaac asked him,."you guys were like super in love."

scott let out a laugh.

"i guess it depends on if she still wants to be friends. i can deal with losing a girlfriend, not my best friend," he said quietly.

isaac chuckled. "of course."

he turned back on his side and scott shuffled closer to him. he wrapped his arms tighter around his friend.

isaac felt so guilty. he had exactly what he wanted. scott was cuddling with him, and he wasn't in love with allison. he wasn't even heartbroken over her.

that felt like an opportunity, but almost one that seemed too good to be true.

he decided to risk it anyway, because if scott didn't feel the same then it wasn't the end of the world for either of them. like he said, he could lose a boyfriend but not his best friend.
