Tatiyana, Yassie, Kimora, Evelynn, Imani, and Nia have been hanging out almost every weekend. They celebrated the 4th of July and Yassie's birthday 7 days after that. They went out drinking to parties, almost got arrested for it, and just overall had a really good summer. Now it's September.

"Mama! I need my skirt! I'm gonna be late!"

"It was very wrinkled. You should've ironed the night before," She tells me.

I huff and continue buttoning my shirt. For back to school, everybody has to wear a uniform. Maybe Mama was right. I should've ironed my skirt the night before.

"Are you excited? You're a junior already," Bryson comes into my room and stands in the doorway. My brother's hair is cut short and I can see his waves from here.

"Well... junior year isn't all that exciting."

"My junior year was fun."

"Yeah, because you dated like 10 seniors."

"Whatever, Nia." Bryson walks away and I spray some more perfume on. I really want to make a good first impression with my teachers.

"Here, Nia," Mama calls me downstairs to get my skirt. I grab my sneakers I'm wearing today, meet her downstairs, and slip my skirt on. I go upstairs and grab all of my hair products. Now, my hair.

Mama follows me upstairs with the laundry basket and starts to wash clothes with the laundry room across down the hall from me.

"Mama, what should I do with my hair?" I ask, not looking out of the mirror in the bathroom.

"I don't know, it's your hair."

"Maybe a bun?"

"Nia, it's your hair. Not my problem."

She continues throwing white garments of fabric into the dryer without a care in the world. Sometimes I wish Daddy never left. Maybe Mama would've cared more for me. I decide on wearing my hair in a slick ponytail. I start randomly rapping "Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj while I do my hair.

"This one is for the boys with the booming system, top down, AC with the cooler system,"

I grab the brush and put Eco-Gel on my hair.

When he come up in the club, he be blazin' up, got stacks on deck like he savin' up,"

I swoop my hair up and grab the excess until it looks decent.

And he ill, he real, he might gotta deal, pop bottles and he got the right kind of build,"

I grab a ponytail holder and tie my hair until it's up and away. I don't feel like doing my edges so I just brush them up.

He cold, he dope, he might sell Coke, he always in the air, but he never fly coach," I mumble under my breath.

Once I'm done, the doorbell rings.

"It might be your little girl group," Mama says from the laundry room.

I grab my PINK shoulder bag and go downstairs. I open the door and Tati is there with Kimora and Yassie.

"Lynn and Imani go to school mad early so they couldn't come," Yassie says as we start walking to school.

Edensburg High School is only 5 blocks away from my home. As we approach the school, the school mascot, a guy in an eagle costume, is giving out flyers. I decide to take one as we walk inside.

"We'll see you later, Tati." Yassie and Kimora walk to their classes as Tati helps me find the main office. I decide to take a look at the flyer.
