Chapter Three: Team Gold

       "Babe, what are we doing in Emerald Hill?" Ray asked as the squirrel and fox jumped down another ledge in the aforementioned zone.

       "Because it's high time I show you my secret lab here," Tails said. "Speaking of which, here we are!"

       "Woah! Is this why you take vacations here every few months without bringing anybody?" Ray asked. Tails nodded, as they entered.

        When the door opened, they got the attention of a blue hedgehog, but it wasn't Sonic. He had red eyes, and matching hair. He was wearing a yellow hoodie with the resistance logo on it.

       "About time you brought company!"

       "Hey, Mets! How's the new body working?"

       Metal Sonic smiled, which was weird for Ray, given that it was Metal Sonic, who he couldn't remember having a mouth.

       "Great! I love the hair! I didn't know nanites could make something that feels so real!" Metal then began playing with his hair a bit.

       "Ok, Tails. Start explaining. Why is Metal Sonic here and not with Eggman?"

       "Well, Metal here came to me after he cut off all communications with Eggman. I took him to this place. Sally had just given me Nicole a few weeks beforehand, so she helped me give him a slight programming changes, and a completely redesigned body!" Tails explained. Ray was surprised, and looked at Metal, who just smiled.

       "Honestly? It feels nice to be able to smile!"

       Ray smiled at that. He was glad Tails was making other people happy. He knew he had a great boyfriend.

      "Anyway, there's another reason I brought you here. Nicole, can you show us Project J?"

       Affirmative. Give me a moment while I pull up the data files.

      "Project J? What's that?" Ray asked.

      "It's a bio project I've been working on for Maria," Tails explained. "You know her brother, Julian?"

      "I think she's mentioned him before. Why?"

      "Well, I may or may not have 'borrowed' his ashes from the Space Colony Ark. I'm planning on re-incarnating him like Eggman did for Maria, only I need two Mobian DNA samples. I'm using my own, but..." Tails trailed off.

      "You want my DNA, too. Don't you?" Ray finished. Tails nodded, looking at his boyfriend nervously.

      "Well... I never expected to become a dad so early, but ok. I'll do it." Ray was met with a tackle hug from Tails.

      "Thank you!!! Let's get to work then!"

A few weeks later...

??? P.O.V.

      I opened my eyes. Wait... aren't I supposed to be dead? Why does it feel like I just woke up from a nap? I looked and saw a two-tailed fox and a flying squirrel in front of me.

     "Julian Robotnik, welcome back to the land of the living."

     I was so confused. Then I looked at my hands. Wait, what?! I have fur! I started panicking slightly, when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up to see the fox looking calmly at me.

     "I know this is a lot to take in. It's been several years, but I can assure you, your alive. Your new body might take some getting used to, but you'll pull through. I'm Miles Prower, but you can call me Tails, and this is my boyfriend, Ray." He gestured to the flying squirrel. "I found your ashes on the Ark and decided to bring you back. I used my own DNA, as well as Ray's, to make you this new body."

     I looked between the two, before smiling, and giving Tails a hug.

     "Thank you, for bringing me back." I said. Tails hugged back.

     "No problem, Julian," he said.

      "Tails! Where are you?!" I froze. I know that voice anywhere.

      A yellow hedgehog in a sky blue dress came into the room, and gasped. I looked at her. While she wasn't the same, I knew who I was looking at.

     "Maria?"

     "Julian?"

     We both ran up to each other and hugged. I never thought I'd get to see my sister again.

       Later....

Third Person P.O.V.

      "Ohohoho! Your time has come, hedgehog!"

      Sonic struggled against his restraints, watching as Eggman's new "Metal Tails" drew closer.

      "You know, I never thought I would bring your end with a robotic version of your dear little brother, but here we are!"

      "That's what you think, Ivo!"

      Both Sonic and Eggman looked towards the source of the voice that Sonic didn't recognize at all, but Eggman knew all too well. A golden-furred fox with two tails stood tall, clutching a lightning Wispon.

     "Who are- woah!" Sonic startled as he was swiftly broken out of his restraints and pulled away. When he was put down he saw Tails. Maria and Ray were also making their way onto the battlefield.

     "J-Julian?! Is that you?!" Eggman stuttered, looking at the golden fox. Julian smirked.

      "The one and only! Sorry cous' but I can't let you hurt these guys!" Julian started spinning the two tails behind him, mimicking the fox that had just saved Sonic, and charged forward, using his Wispon to whip Metal Tails away, as Maria grappled into the robot, using her Burst Wispon to fire the metallic fox into Eggman, sending them flying away.

       Julian turned to Sonic, and smiled.

       "You must be Sonic the hedgehog! I'm Julian, Julian Robotnik. Although my last name might as well be Prower now," he said, smiling at Tails and Ray. Sonic glanced at them, and then noticed that Julian not only had two Tails, but on his arms were the wings of a flying squirrel.

      "So you guys pulled a Maria, huh? Combining mobian DNA with human ashes, right? Pretty cool!" Sonic heard the communicator on his wrist go off.

       "Come in, Cadet Sonic! Status report on your practice mission!"

       "It went well, Commander Tower. Eggman caught me, but I got an assist from some old friends. I still have the data I retrieved on me. I'll report back to base as soon as possible."

       "Good work. This concludes your final test. You'll be assigned your team shortly after returning. Welcome to the agency, Stealth Agent Sonic." 

       After hanging up, Sonic spoke again into his wrist.

       "Gamma, could you calculate the fastest route back to HQ?"

      "Affirmative. Calculating fastest route to GUN HQ... Fastest route acquired. Mapping now..."

       Tails was astonished. "Wait... GUN?! You're working for GUN now?" Sonic nodded.

       "Yep! Joined about a month after Team Sonic disbanded," he replied. "Now, I gotta get this info back to HQ. I'm kinda excited to see what my team is gonna be!" With that, Sonic was gone.

       Ray and Tails looked at each other, and just nodded.

       "What do you guys say we form our own team?" Tails said. Maria and Julian both nodded excitedly.

        "You know... since we all have similar colored fur, I think I've got a good team name!" Ray said.

        "What is it then?" Maria asked.

        "Team Gold!"

        "Perfect! Team Gold, let's do this!!!" Tails exclaimed, and they all jumped into the air, cheering.
