Chapter Two: Maria: Ultimate Wingwoman

Two years ago...

      Tails' P.O.V.

      I sighed. The war was over, Sonic was free, he and Shadow had even gotten together. But I was still kinda sad. I was staring at a picture that Amy took a while back, when Sonic, Knuckles, and I were on an adventure with Mighty and Ray.

      I was looking at Ray specifically.

      Ever since he and Maria started helping Shadow, Omega, and I during the war, I'd found myself catching feelings for the flying squirrel.

      "Everything o-ok, Tails?"

      I jumped, nearly dropping the picture I was holding, and whipped around. Ray was standing there, looking concerned. I felt my face heating up.

      "Yeah, I'm fine, Ray! No need for concern!" I said nervously. He smiled and nodded, before walking away. I sighed, I was definitely blushing right now.

      "I see you've got your eye on a certain squirrel."

      I jumped again, looking at Maria, who was smirking at me.

      "S-so what? He probably doesn't like me in that way anyways..." I said, almost tearing up at my own words.

      "Please, I've caught him staring at you a few times. He's totally into you! Just give it a chance! If things go wrong, I'll back you up all the way!" she said. I smiled. I can always count on Maria to help out. When I came out to her, she'd even offered to help me and whoever I end up with have a kid if we wanted one.

      "O-ok. I'll do it," I said. Maria smiled and gave me a thumbs up. Thankfully, I found Ray alone in his room.

      "Hey, Ray? C-can I talk to you?" I asked. He smiled widely, making me blush. God he's adorable.

      "Sure! What did you wanna talk about?" he asked. I sighed.

      "So... you remember how I told you I was gay, right?"

      "Yeah?"

      "Well... I sort of... have... a crush.... on.... you...." I managed to get it out, but I still cowered in fear of what he would think of me now. The I felt something I didn't expect at all: a pair of soft lips against my own. He was kissing me! I almost immediately started kissing back. When we pulled away, I smiled.

       "I love you," was all I could get out. It felt like my heart was beating at a million beats per second.

       "I l-love you t-too," he said, and we just sat there cuddling for the next few minutes.

      Then Maria walked in.

      "See? What did I tell ya?"

      "You knew about this, didn't you?" I said. She nodded. I sighed, and just continued cuddling Ray, who had just fallen asleep in my arms. I smiled. I've never felt this happy before.

      I swear my Ray of sunshine, I'll protect you.

       Maria's P.O.V.

      I smiled at I tucked Tails and Ray into bed together, before leaving. I'm glad I could help them. I giggled a I thought of a silly title for myself.
