Anew(Zoe and Eve)

Nightmare

Eve wakes up, screaming, not knowing remembering her dream, only the terrible feeling. However, Zoe comes to her side...Will she be okay?

Eve shrieked. She jerked up, and heard another scream beside her, as if in surprise of her own. Eve looked to her left quickly, feeling tear tracks on her own face. She didn't remember what she had been dreaming about... she just had a sense of disgust, but really, fear. Blinking, she looked at the person sitting next to her, Zoe's hands covering her mouth as if to take back her scream. Eve looked at Zoe. Eve began to cry again, and she didn't know why, but she felt so, so, scared, and her heart was racing, and she just wanted to be wrapped up in Zoe's arms and breathe in her warm scent and hide. Eve wanted only to be seen by Zoe, and she wanted simply for Zoe to protect her and hold her and... Zoe stared at her with shock and worry. Eve's lip trembled. Zoe quickly jumped out of her seat and sat on top of the white sheets of the bed, placing herself in front of Eve. Zoe reached over to Eve and wrapped her into a tight embrace. Really tight, and Eve appreciated it. Sometimes, when you're crying, your body gets all tense, and Eve felt that now, and feeling warm arms squeeze her tightly as if they would never let go, felt both physically relieving and just safe. Zoe murmured something into Eve's hair, but Eve didn't hear it, only felt t Zoe's warm breath. Still, her heart was beating fast and her body was still shaking. Her body was racked with sobs, and Eve hated it because she didn't know why she was crying so much. She only had the feeling of something she hated with her entire being, and all she wanted, all she needed was Zoe. Eve heard Zoe say,

"Shhhh, love, you're ok, you're ok," Zoe chanted, with her chin resting on Eve's head, and her hand gently stroking Eve's hair. Eve knew that, from this close contact Zoe would be able to feel her shaking.

"I'm sorry," Eve whispered. Zoe put her cheek to hers, every inch of skin touching, bringing Eve warmth. Zoe closed her eyes.

"I'm always here, okay? I'm here to listen to you, and make you laugh, and kiss you and hold you, and I am here to protect you," Zoe whispered, her voice low and fierce. Eve nodded, still choking on sobs, as they started to die down.

"I will protect you, and I will never, ever leave, okay? So I am in your dreams too, I am there to fight off the monsters, and to be with you in the darkness, even just to shoo away the bullies. Whatever it is, whoever it is, whenever, wherever, I will always be there, and you will always be okay, Eve." Eve tried to take a breath as she listened to Zoe's words. She was too tired to marvel at them as she would've if she was in a different state. Eve could only be soothed by Zoe's familiar, sweet voice, accepting her words like a child being told they would always be safe from scary monsters. Now, Zoe's voice seemed to tremble the slightest but.

"So don't be scared Eve. You won't ever feel scared, or unhappy, or lonely, without me by your side. I will be here through it all, and I will never let anything break you. Okay?" Zoe said, shakily at first, but firm by the end. Eve mustered as much of her strength and mumbled softly,

"Okay." Eve's eyelids felt heavy. Zoe put her chin back atop Eve's head, and pulled Eve in against her own chest, holding her in an embrace. Zoe held her like a sleeping child, and stroked her hair and her back, rocking her gently, soothing her, until finally Eve fell asleep.
