Welcome back guys. I don't have a busy schedule as it is now because the world is practically on a lockdown because of COVID 19,and I hope this pandemic blows over as quickly as it came. Meanwhile,I hope you all are staying safe and practising social distancing. Let's all follow precautionary measures and stay indoors,we shall overcome.
That said, I would be updating this story as fast as I can hoping to finish it in a month or less depending on how my creative side rears it's head. Ok,enough talk back to the story.
Adanna's POV
Still closing my eyes,I say Rose say something naw. In a nanosecond I felt tugging and squealing at my hands. Rose was jumping and laughing,I didn't understand; I had not taken a look at the screen yet. ''Can we print it out now'' comes Mr Taiwo's voice. ''Yes yes'' Rose replied. It was at that moment,my eyes fell on the screen and I saw my score

Words couldn't express my happiness. I was dumbfounded. I read and prepared well,but I had doubts after my exam. The devil can be so mischievous. ''Congratulations'', ''congrats'', ''congrats oo'' came the different voices at the cafe. I didn't know who to reply,so I just kept on smiling. Rose collected the print out and paid for the time used at the cafe;and we were on our way out.
I had already spaced out with how happy I was when I suddenly heard snapping of fingers in front of my face ''Earth to Ada,earth to Ada''. I blinked rapidly and composed. ''Why are you acting like you are in a world of your own and nobody but a lot of you exists there'' Rose snapped. I'm sorry jare come on. I was only giving thanks to my chi, I said smiling. Rose nudged me with her shoulders beaming ''it isn't easy nah,osheyyyy scholar''. I didn't know when we started laughing on the road. ''Finally village people cannot get this one oo,you practically flew Ada,you don't even need to stress yourself too much for POST UTME;admission don sure''. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, I said. I have to work extra hard for this POST UTME sef,make I no go hear okoto yarns(nonsense talk) if result come out. ''True,but at least this first step is already sure,congratulations Ada'' Rose said tickling me on the road till I burst out laughing. Thank you oo,thank God I said in between laughs.
We went from talking about results to talking about university life and it's happening. Rose was still in her first year, and currently second semester,before the end of the session,the Post utme exam would be conducted and while students were on school break, the results would be out and registration and all that would start in preparation for a new school year.
6:35pm
Checking my phone as if just realising myself and where I was,I shrieked.
Rose please let's branch at the night market,I need to get some ingredients for dinner; I said hastily. ''Ahanha,you still have to go home to cook. I was thinking we could go to my hostel so we could finish Skinny girls in transit(a Web series) together. What does Oluchi do at home sef that you always act like the maid'' Rose said all at once. I couldn't help but chuckle lightly. We always argued about how I did all the work at home with little or no help from any of my siblings. Oluchi was the last child of my parents and my immediate younger one. It made sense if I sent her on little errands,but knowing the type of sister I had,she would grumble while you are talking;barely hearing half of what you asked her to do and still end up doing the wrong thing.
I was 18 and she was 14. ''You no fit buy 4 years for market,you need to be slapping sense into that skull of hers'' Rose would always say. But I didn't like stressing the young girl. And why couldn't I just do it seeing that I had been home all day while she went to school. My father would not let me hear the last of it if Oluchi reported me. ''What do you want to cook'',Rose said with a scrunch look. My spaghetti special,I replied winking. ''You for talk that one from beginning nah'' Rose replied in pidgin English. ''I'll stay and help you just because I want to eat before retiring to my hostel,I had no idea on what to eat this night sef''.
We quickly made a detour to the night market road. I got all the necessary ingredients we didn't have at home to prepare dinner and we were on our way home.
Passing the big red gate that secured my street,I greeted the mallam that owned the small kiosk at the entrance,and mama vic who owned the small provision shop just meters away from the kiosk. We passed through the popular pharmacy and I stopped to greet Nurse Angy (as everyone calls her). Rose made a quick stop to get us drinks to go down with the food after eating. There again I greeted the owner of the shop.
''Good evening sir,good evening ma,ahh mallam ina wuni(good evening in hausa),soon you'll be greeting the lizards on your street too'', Rose mimicked. This girl was a ball of silent trouble,I said internally and rolled my eyes. Abeg no be just greeting,make dem chop am before dem go carry my matter for head (Is it not just greetings, better to greet than be gossiped by them).
We got into my compound that housed 4 flats. Our flat was on the ground floor,then there was The Abinibis occupying the flat just behind us. On the first floor was The Onwukas that acted like they were better than everyone else,and then on the top most was occupied Mama Bolu and her 2 kids.
7:05pm
Oluchi was just spreading her washed uniform on the cloth line outside. ''Good evening sister,good evening Rose,long time no see oo. At least now that Ada has written her exam you can be coming to disturb us again'',Oluchi added as a snide remark to get Rose talking. Guessing she didn't take the hint,she replied excitedly ''Yes oo,I can disturb now because Ada passed her JAMB excellently''. Oluchi ran to where we stood at the verandah,''Ada let me see now'';she said shining all her thirty-two. I was so happy. Here I was with people who were genuinely happy for my progress. I brought out the slip,dry your hands first before you touch my result biko,I said. Oluchi quickly dried her hands on her dress and collected the paper. ''284! 284!! 284!!!'' Oluchi shouted hysterically. Her behaviour made Rose and I burst into laughter. ''Finally Ada the business administrator/analyst'',she said grinning from ear to ear. ''We should celebrate oo'';''ehnn we can do that by helping Ada in the kitchen today'',Rose added eyeing Oluchi to hear her response. Oya I'll help,let's go in,Oluchi responded.
Making dinner was fast because Rose and Oluchi helped me. By 7:45 dinner was ready and we had eaten,and cleared things up. My mum was expected home any moment from now. She owned a shop at Lagos island market popularly called Eko market. She sold all types of female wears from Turkey, US, UK and the likes. My dad was the head of Human Resource at A&G, one of the popular Insurance firms in Lagos...he usually came back home a little later than 9 or 9pm.
Knock,knock,knock
''Who is there'',Oluchi stood up to answer the door.
