I looked up at the stars through the tree branches. Sitting in the middle of the gardens was always peaceful for me, I remember when my father would bring me out here when I was just a toddler and couldn't sleep. Him in his long silvery robe, his soft shoes padding against the grass. He would sit down and hold me in his lap as we looked up at the stars. Such beauty flowing through the sky, the colors swirling and dancing with each other. I closed my eyes and breathed in deep. Crisp air from the forest with hints of the surrounding flowers filled my nose, the sent of a nearby river and it's cool water gurgling and laughing as it fell over the rocks played along with the notes of the flowers. I laid back and the grass was rough against my bare back, I put my hands under my head and continued to watch the night sky. A shooting star flew across the sky, I smiled and made a wish.

"Oh, your highness, forgive me. I did not know you we're here." Said a young she-elf with fiery red hair.

"Tauriel, we've been friends for long enough that you should call me Legolas." I sat up and motioned for her to sit next to me.

"Long enough? Toddlers to be precise." She sat down, her deep blue dress flowing behind her, gold trimmings and detailing on the front of the dress in large swirls and in the shape of elegant birds in mid flight.

"It seems like yesterday when we we're just toddlers." I sighed laying back down, Tauriel laid down with me and stared into the sky with wide eyes.

Another star shot across the sky.

"Take that one Tauriel, I did one earlier." I whispered to her. She shut her eyes tight and bit her lip.

"What did you wish for Legolas?" She asked looking at me with excitement in her smile.

"You're not supposed to tell what you wished for or it won't come true." I laughed, the silver chain that held a small silver charm around my neck was cold against my skin and it slid as I laughed.

"Oh my friend, what would I do without your great wisdom." Tauriel took my hand in hers.

"Great wisdom indeed. You remember that time I decided to climb a tree that hung over the window of my chamber and my father was almost knocked out by a falling tree branch from me?"

"Yes I do, I was up in the top of the tree. Your father was furious, I'm surprised we got away with a light of a punishment as we did!" Tauriel laughed as the memories flooded her mind.

"How much fun we had when we were younger, now look at us. A dusty old Prince and a lone warrior. What has happened to us since." I said looking back up to the sky.
