He didn't talk to me during the drive back for some reason. Which is what I wanted. I was trying to process what his little brother meant by they were always watching. And I was also trying to figure out what almost happened when it occured to me that that was the closest I've ever come to kissing a boy. I've never been able to trust one enough to let him get that close to me and trust that he wouldn't hurt me. It was my problem with promises, I knew. We were about halfway to my house when we got stopped at the longest stoplight ever. I had my arm up on the door and was resting my head on my hand when he finally decided to talk to me again.

"Can I ask you something?" he asked. I stared at the bright red light.

"What?"

"If uh...if Larry hadn't come when he did, what do you think would have happened?" he asked. I looked over at him. What did I......I didn't even think about that really. I didn't think about the possibility of Larry not coming in and what I would have done. I didn't know if I would have moved or if I would have let him. I answered him honestly.

"I don't know," I said, looking forward again.

"You don't?"

"No, I....I don't know," I said. His grip on the steering wheel tightened and I shut my eyes. I was making him upset.

"Neither do I," he said quietly. I obviously wasn't supposed to hear him, so I pretended I didn't. The light finally switched to green and he stepped on the gas, only to slam on the breaks, sending me flying against my seatbelt.

"Okay, what is with you and slamming on the breaks?!" I exclaimed. I looked in front of me and there was that same silver SUV from before. "Hey isn't that the same car from before?" This time, just the two front doors opened and two guys were getting out.

"Aw, come on!" Damon cried out. The guy who was on the passenger side of the SUV came over by Damon's window and knocked on it. "Hayley, don't say a word. Don't look up at him, just look down."

"What? Why, what's going on?"

"Just please," he begged. I obeyed him and looked down. Damon rolled the window down and one of the other guys started laughing.

"Well, well, well. Damon Smith," one said.

"What do you want?" Damon growled.

"Whoa, don't use that tone with me mister," the same guy taunted.

"You know what, Jake? How about we all forget what happened? Just let it go and move on?"

"Ah ha, I don't think so. You know I don't let things go so easily," the guy whos name was Jake said. I side glanced over and saw the guy who was Jake. I knew the last time there were four of them at the least and now there were only two. This was making me wonder why Damon wasn't backing away in reverse and going over this guy's foot in the process. Against his wishes, I looked up. Not AT the guys Damon was talking to, just straight ahead.

"What kind of gentleman are you, Damon?" Jake asked. "I see a pretty lady right next to you and you aren't going to bother introducing us?"

"You know I can get away from you guys by just going in reverse and running over your foot in the process?" Damon snapped.

"You know you wouldn't do that."

"And why not?"

"Take a look behind you," Jake grinned. Damon looked and I, naturally, looked too. There was another car that looked to be another SUV behind us. Damon swore and faced forward again.

"Is there any chance we can take a raincheck on this?" he groaned. Jake chuckled darkly.

"You know there isn't. Do you know that YOU are a HARD guy to find? The only reason we knew where you were now was because your little brother gave us the heads up," Jake smirked. The other guy who was riding in the SUV with him was standing, cross armed in front of the car- staring at me. I looked back down. What exactly did Damon get into? Why were these guys trying so desperately to get to him? What did Damon do to make them come after him?
