"How much more lavender are you gonna add?"

"It makes it tastes better."

"Lavender tastes like dirt."

I stir it one last time before pouring it into a mug and leaving it on the counter to cool. I look around despairingly. In the few hours we've been here we've managed to trash my entire kitchen.

"Don't blame me for the mess its not my fault you don't know where anything in the kitchen is."

"What did i say about reading my mind?"

" Sorry," she says sheepishly,"You were just thinking so loud."

"Its okay." I look up at the clock on one of the kitchen walls," We should probably start getting ready, the potion is gonna take a while to cool."

She talks excitedly as we make our way to my room. She unpacks a purple and gold dress and a pearl necklace from her bag. She probably cast a protection spell to keep the dress from wrinkling. I go to my closet and unearth a deep blue gown. I almost didn't pack it, i didn't think I would need it, luckily mother thinks a lady should have at least three formal gowns at hand at all times.

Maggie finally stops talking as she tries to untie the back of her day dress. She turns helplessly to me and I struggle for a few seconds before I untie it. She drops her dress on the floor the second its loose and goes to sit in front of my vanity and put on makeup.

I slip out of my dress and hang it over one of my closet doors as I start to put on my gown.

"I wonder if Lord Jasper will be there," Maggie says from the vanity.

"Who?" I ask as I try to secure the back of my dress.

" The Lord's son. He's frightfully handsome. No one's seen much of him since he started working at the library."

"Oh, I've heard about the library," I tell her excitedly. " Apparently it has one of the largest collection of books and artifacts."

"It has THE largest collection," She corrects me proudly.

"I've been planning on checking it out since I've arrived, but I've never had the time."

"You should go check it out not for the books or that, but just to see him in his natural habitat. Because wow, he's beautiful."

I laugh as I finish tying my dress. " I'm sure he looks like Adonis. Now move so i can start on my make-up."

"Fine, fine." She stands up. Her hair is braided away from her face and into a bun at the back of her head secured with pearl pins. There's gold eye shadow across her lids and a soft pink lipstick on her lips. She blows me a kiss." How do I look?"

"Like Aphrodite. I'm sure you'll sweep Lord Jasper off his feet."

She laughs," If only, I've been trying to get his attention since I was thirteen."

She starts to pull on her dress as i softly apply some silver eye shadow and some peach lipstick.

"I mean its not even that he's ridiculously handsome, its that he doesn't even seem to realise." She says lovingly.

I nod supportively as I twist my hair into a bun on the top of my head.

"When we were small he used to come into the bakery with his parents and while they ate we would come play in the garden at the back. He was my first friend."

"Mhm," i murmur as i frame my face with a few curls and and thread some flowers through the base of my bun.

She flops down on my bed after finishing tying her dress, " Once when we're playing I tripped and grazed my knee and he bandaged it with my hair ribbon and kissed it."
