THE BELL RANG for the end of lunch and spencers mood shot up greatly. jasper could feel it from a few feet behind her, the happiness radiating from the small girl. he smiled to himself, and decided to walk up beside her.
"spencer." he greeted. she turned to him with a smile.
"jasper." she replied in the same tone he had used. a playful look on her face as they both entered their english class. he pulled her chair out for her, as if they were out together at a dinner. she giggled to herself and sat with her books.
stares were sent her way from people near her, wondering why the hale boy took such a liking to her. he never talked to anyone beside his family, and his family kept to themselves. everyone was curious about jasper and spencer, especially since she was the new girl. but spencer could deal with a few wandering stares from people she didn't know.
"it's freezing today," jasper commented. "there will probably be ice, from the rain. be careful on your way home for me." he warned her as class started. spencer was confused from the warning, like he cared for her. she bit her lip, biting at the skin, thinking about the beautiful boy beside her.
"i will be, you too." she replied, worried eyes turned toward jasper. he chuckled slightly, shaking his head. he'd be careful, he was worried about her. she was fragile, but nothing could hurt him.
that was the extent of their conversation in english, and the rest of the day passed in a blur for spencer. on her way out of the school, she noticed the squealing of tires and a blue van slamming diagonally into the back of bella's truck. fear struck through her chest like a lightning bolt as she ran towards her friend.
"bella!" spencer shouted, hurrying around the van just to see the girl perfectly fine, edward exiting by junping over the back of her truck. she shared a glance with the swan girl but didn't ask anything. a crowd of people formed around the two, and spencer threw an arm around bella's shoulder.
ambulances swarmed the school lot in record time, and they rushed bella and tyler to the hospital though nothing seemed too bad. tyler had a couple cuts, but bella was fine. spencers mind wandered on to edward. she had passed the cullens, they were on the other side of the lot, and surely edward had been with them. he couldn't have gotten over there any faster than spencer herself.
she was thinking too hard, a crease between her eyebrows. she knew bella would be fine, but she was still worried and very confused.
"spencer?" a musical voice questioned. her eyes shot up to find alice cullens face. "are you alright?"
"uh, yeah. yeah i'm fine, uh, i've gotta get to bella." she stuttered, fumbling into her bag with her keys. her hands were shaking, she was in shock from the whole thing. everything happened so fast, and she saw the van. it should have crushed bella, yet it didn't. somehow, edward cullen had pushed the van away with his hand, and he came out perfectly fine.
she dropped her keys and went to pick them up, but a pale hand covered them on the ground.
"hey, let me drive you. you're shaken up, i don't think you should go alone." another beautiful voice spoke up. jasper had her keys in hand, a concerned look in his eyes. a calm feeling washed over spencer, but it barely helped her. she was reeling through the scene in her mind. jasper put a cold hand on the small of her back and led her to her car.
"i'll be home with carlisle, alice." he informed his sister. alice nodded and gracefully headed for rosalie's red convertible.
spencer got into the passenger seat, eyes vacant. she turned the heat on, blasted it, to warm her cold hands from the freezing temperature outside. jasper got in and started the car, making his way toward the hospital. spencer was glad she'd at least get to see her mom.
