SPENCER SPENDS HER next few nights staring at the ceiling, her mind on a certain boy that sat next to her in english. it had only been one week and she was already intrigued by a boy. she pushed the thought away and rolled over, looking at her bedside clock. six a.m. great.
the brunette sighed and got ready for school, dreading her day with people she barely liked. the only person she could stand was bella, and thats only because she wasn't as ridiculous as the rest of her group of friends. they also shared a interest in the cullen-hale family, which gave them something to awkwardly converse about.
getting into her car, spencer turned up the heat and pulled out of the driveway, and made the short journey to her second day of a new school. she parked far from the school, in the rain, and made a face at the sky. yeah, she liked the weather, but she felt crabby today from getting next to no sleep.
getting out of her car, she pulled on her hood and made her way inside. she was almost halfway across the lot when a familiar presence startled her. spencer looked over to see none other than jasper hale, an umbrella in hand over her head.
"oh, hi." she greeted the boy, blush on her cheeks.
"hello. thought you could use some cover in the rainfall. it's pouring out here." jasper smiled, his accent soft and charming. they got stares as the walked towards school together, even bella looked at spencer in awe, wondering how she pulled a pretty boy in so fast. but she didn't even know how either.
looking at jaspers family as she passed, she noticed edward looked stiff and aggravated, but the rest of the family had a smile on their face. emmett even waved. spencer ducked her head in embarrassment and opened the door to walk inside.
"thank you." she said to jasper, who smiled back with perfectly white teeth. her heart skipped a beat, happiness washed over her just like the rain.
"my pleasure," he responded, latching the umbrella and sitting it next to the front doors. "though i do have to get to first period. i'll see you in english." he tipped his head in goodbye and swiftly made his way down the hall. spencer stood frozen for a moment before a voice brought her out of it.
"spencer!" eric startled her, making her jump.
"eric." she mumbled, rolling her eyes. she really couldn't get away from this boy. he was obsessed with her or something, following her around like a lost puppy. not that she minded the attention, she just wish he'd tone it down already. maybr if she punched him, he'd get the hint, she thought.
a low chuckle was heard behind her, and she turned to see the face of edward cullen not far behind the duo. he smiled at her and she whipped back around, embarrassed.
her day went on accordingly, but she only looked forward to her class after lunch. lunch dragged on, eric sitting beside her prattling her ear off. spencer thought of maybe hitting him with her car or something. but then maybe he'd think it was his fault and follow her around even more. she internally groaned and flitted her eyes across the room.
the cullen table was full, but edward was looking at her with a smile on his face. embarrassment surged through her, and he wondered why he was looking at her.
spencer found jaspers eyes, who was seemingly already staring. she didn't mind, of course. his eyes always brought her comfort, stability. like she was safe.
"uh, spencer?" eric brought her from her thoughts once again. she noticed she'd been lost in her thoughts a lot recently. and it was because of a certain boy.
"what?"
"well what do you think?"
"about.... what?" she replied, confusion written on her face.
"about going to, ya know, prom. with me." he mumbled, cleadly disappointed that she hadn't been listening. spencer tried to feel bad about it but she couldn't.
"uh, i barely know you, eric. so, no. i'm sorry. maybe ask angela, she mentioned she likes you." which she had, the day before. but she was also hoping to get eric off her ass, she was tired of his bullshit, like she was some prize or something.
eric's eyes lit up just a bit with excitement, and she could practically feel him forming an idea in his head.
she sighed in relief and turned her eyes back to the hale boy. mybe she was too infatuated with him for only knowing him for two days. but something in her didn't care. she felt as if they were drawn to each other.he's totally into you, spencer. look, he's staring." jessica babbled to the girl, loud and annoying.
"shut up jess." spencer rolled her eyes, looking away from the golden eyed boy with the faintest of blush on her cheeks.
at the cullen table, alice squealed.
"see jazz! i knew you wouldn't be able to stay away from her. she's like a ray of sunshine!" the girl exclaimed.
"which is funny cause she's actually kinda bitchy in her head. she wants to hit eric with her car." edward laughed. she was one of the funniest people he could hear. it was refreshing to have someone like that, he needed a good laugh once in a while.
"tell jasper what she thinks about him!" alice prodded, a sly look in her eyes. edward rolled his, shaking his head with a grin.
"thats something he'll have to find out for himself." edward teased his brother, who's expression dropped significantly.

days dragged on of the same thing, icy rain and speaking periodically to jasper hale. her mom wondered what had been on her daughters mind lately, knowing she was distracted. it was evening, and her mom was cooking. spencer sat at the dining table, staring at her history paper that she was supposed to be writing.
"spence, what's on your mind?" laura asked her daughter while she chopped peppers. spencer jumped and turned her eyes to her mother.
"not much but at the same time, a lot."
"well, how's school been? i know i'm not here much but i still care about you. i wanna know."
"well, it's going. they're all very... welcoming." spencer grimaced picking her blank history essay up and shoving it in a folder.
"uh oh, tell me all about it." laura said, putting the knife in her hand onto the counter and walking towards her daughter.
spencer shoved her folder back into her bag and stood.
"it doesn't even matter."
"yes it does, honey. are they being nice to you?" laura asked, laying a motherly hand on spencers shoulder. spencer shook it off and dropped her bookbag by the front door, then made her way upstairs. shs was stressed.
