Rich couldn't sleep, when could he? He sighed, the clock trick not working at all. He looked down at his sleeping Eddie and sighed. He whispered to the small frame, light catching the perfect shape of his face. "I'm going to smell like smoke again in a minute baby boy" He smirked at the pout on Eddie's gently freckled face. Unable to tell if the small boy was even awake or asleep.
Richie shrugged it off and stood up carefully. He tightened the waistband of his sweats and tucked the white t-shirt in. He grabbed his cigarettes and lighter, the one box that wasn't bought by him, the box Bev had given him for his last birthday. As he opened the door he looked back to Eddie, and rolled his eyes. He shut the door and went to his closet, grabbing a jean jacket. 'What is this boy doing to me?' he thought, chuckling as he approached the door again, he smiled.
He tucked the lighter, cigarettes and his phone into his pocket. He grabbed his red beanie off the small table beside the door, Bill's so-called desk, barely any room. He walked out of the room, re-locking it. He walked past Connor's door, sighing. He noticed the door was open and knocked gently. "Connor? Did you want your door open?" he called out.
A familiar voice answered, just a grunt of approval, not Connor, but his awful cousin. "Ah, Hello Henry" Bowers knew exactly who was at the door. He rolled his eyes and stood from the makeshift bed on the floor. "Trashmouth." He sighed the name. "You here to bone my cousin again?" Richie bit his lip, "He, uh, he told you?" The other boy's face was enough to tell Rich that no, Connor hadn't.
"I was talking about middle school dickwad, it was a joke. You ain't turning my cousin into a fucking fairy are you?" Richie took a deep breath through his teeth as Bowers asked him about Connor. After a few questions, a few punches hit Richie's face. He didn't stop them.
The door slammed and Rich walked to the roof, no chance he'd make a big deal. His nose wasn't broken, just bleeding. He may get a shiner, but he'll look badass. Imagine how mad Eds will be, he laughs at that as he reaches the stairs to the roof. He pulls out his phone, finding his favorite songs all on one playlist. He sits up on a ledge looking out on the campus. He pulls out a cigarette and lights it, clicking play on the playlist when he uncups his hand from the flame.
It starts with Your Song by Elton John, fading into Can't Help Falling in Love. By the time he gets to King Of Rock and Roll by Prefab Sprout he's fully aware of the blood on his white shirt and his swelling eye. He licks the blood from his lips and stands up, turning around to find Eddie.
Seconds later, Eddie is using wipes and other shit from the fanny pack he grabbed out of instinct to clean his lover up. "Can you put the cigarette down for five seconds Chee?" Rich shakes his head no and takes another drag. "Look how pretty it is in color." Rich sighs, pointing out details on the skyline. The Eagles' Hotel California is playing softly in the background when Eddie takes a deep breath.
"I'd seen color for years Richie, I pretended not to because I hadn't really met you yet" Richie looks back in awe and asks what Eddie meant. "Well, I was visiting Bill and I stopped into a pharmacy to buy a water after shooting the breeze all day. And I felt somebody bump into me, we were barely sixteen then. turned around to yell at him, and saw your black hair and dumb red hawaiian shirt and red socks. You were with Bev. She turned around and said sorry, giggling with an unlit cigarette in her mouth. You didn't look back, but you turned to look at her and my whole world lit up with color. I knew I had to find you."
"Wait sixteen? I got your first text when we were seventeen." Richie asks, his music off now, Eddie didn't see when it shut off, Rich in pure love with this boy, staring intently. "I, this is so dumb, I told Bill about everything but the whole color thing, describing Beverly perfectly. He said you were his friends and offered your numbers to me. I took them, but I couldn't bring myself to text you until school started, I had nobody but Bill to talk to and nothing to do then. I didn't mention anything so I didn't scare or overwhelm you"
Richie smiles and presses a kiss to Eddie's lips. Eddie laughs and pushes him off "Your lip is split, you taste like blood." They laugh and Richie tries to finish his cigarette before tossing it off the roof. He couldn't bear the fact Eddie had to go home for Christmas. Still, he was going. Rich would stay on campus, have sushi if anywhere was open. Eddie ruffled his boyfriend's hair and muttered "I'm going back to my room tomorrow, Ma is coming to town for a few days before I go home with her."
Rich's heart sank, he'd just heard that his soulmate had loved him since before they met and now they can't share a bed for almost a full month and a half. "Fine, I'm sending you dick pics everyday" "Beep beep." They smile together again and Eddie pulls the jean jacket off of Richie's bony shoulders "I'm taking this, it smells like you."
Richie's expression turns to curiosity. "What do I smell like?" Eddie takes a deep breath. "Cigarettes. Coconut and banana, your shampoo. Always an undertone of Bev's perfume and coffee. Chocolate, vanilla and sometimes strawberries, which I don't know where you get that. You smell like my boyfriend" Rich can't help but feel like he's under a spell with Eddie's words. Who pays attention like that? Just a few hours ago Eddie was so drunk he could pass out in a drainpipe and shrug it off as being wasted. (Please get this reference) And now he's a poet? Magic. Richie loved the magic he got from this boy.
Richie loved anything he got from this boy.
