He isn't himself. He is barely talking and he looks lost in his thoughts. She's never seen him this way. He's usually so confident and secure. She manages to get him to sit down on the couch she uses for therapy sessions, most choose the chair.
They however have used this couch for a different kind of therapy. Healing each other.
She'd never planned on sleeping with a patient.
Not ever.
She has a son almost the same age as this boy across from her now.
She's married.
A marriage. Mind you a predictable one. The sex has slowed. The intimacy has disappeared. Almost completely. They barely communicate except for the usual good morning and quick kiss goodbye, have a good day, that is more of habit then anything.
She wondered if they even found each other attractive anymore?
She had prepared herself to live this life of mundane existence. Maybe after Jamie moves out to college, maybe then they could find themselves as a couple again or get divorced.
Jamie is too sensitive now to handle it.
She hadn't admitted to herself how horrible the loneliness was until Hugh had crashed into her life and brought chaos with him.
She can still remember the exact moment he'd sauntered into her office. She had just finished reading his file and thinking how much work it was going to take to reach this one.
She closed her laptop and faced him.
She'd never seen anything so beautiful in her life.
She had to remind herself he was only 23.
23
23
He slide down into the chair opposite her. His blue eyes penetrating hers. And the way he looked at her. Those eyes drifting across her body slowly and thoroughly
She hadn't been looked at like that for so long.
To see desire and lust coming from this boy, who could have anyone, directed towards her.
She took a deep breath.
Over weeks she had tried to resist his advances.
The erotic poems in his journal
The carnal looks.
The caresses.
Eventually she couldn't stay away from him.
He made her feel wanted. Desired.
He made her feel alive.
He'd become her very own addiction.
An addiction she never wanted rehab for.
She leaves him now in her office as she goes to get the first aid box.
She comes back and carefully cleans the wound. It won't need stitches she thinks.
"Can you tell me what happened? A fight?"
He doesn't look at her. Just passed her towards her desk.
"I don't want to talk about it."
She sighs.
"Maybe I can help"
He grabs her face in his hands then, a little roughly but not overly so. He's been more so.
"I said I don't want to talk about it" he slams his lips to hers. Crushing his lips over hers again and again. He pulls away and looks at her.
A look she's never seen.
He slowly starts to take off his shirt, exposing his abs, his chests.
She frantically pulls off her blouse.
He's on her again.
Sliding her onto the couch coming to rest on top of her.
Devouring her mouth then neck.
She feels his hands pulling up her skirt.
She moans.
She will never have enough of this boy she realizes.
Never enough.
They have sex but it's different.
Usually he is very present but this time she can see the distance in his eyes. He's not there with her.
He's somewhere else and it makes her feel insecure.
Still she lets him fuck his pain away. For as long as he needs.
She wakes sometime later.
He's gone.
He's never left her while sleeping before.
She sits up naked and reaches for her parties and bra.
It's then she notices her laptop is open.
She rises slowly and walks over. Already expecting the worse. Already knowing the answer.
She hits the space button.
The screen flicks on.
Light illuminating the dark room around her.
Her files have been opened.
Her heart hammers inside her chest.
One in particular is open.
Tessa Riggs.
Her hands rifle across her desk, shoving important documents aside. She can't find it.
Her USB is gone.
She sinks into her chair.
Hugh what have you done?Hugh walks briskly towards home. Not caring that he's back in his soaking wet clothes. Not caring that what he has done is probably going to come back to haunt him later and possibly do irrefutable damage to his inside connection with Megan.
He doesn't care.
He's done what he had to do.
Inside his pocket his holds tightly onto the USB.
Like it's a lifeline.
He has to know.
