-Aria-
"He's dead, isn't he?"
The nurse hesitates. She drops her gaze and wrings her hands. She seems pretty sad about what happened, as if she knew him. A sob escapes me as I take a breath.
She shakes her head.
I swallow hard. "He's alive? Is he awake?"
She hesitates, then shakes her head again. "Well, he's not awake, either. He's slipped into a coma, Aria, and I'm sure Luke won't wake up for a while."
••••••••
-Luke-
I'm underwater. Can't breathe. Can't speak. Can't do anything.
I'm helpless.
••••••••••
-Aria-
He's laying there. I'm choke back a sob as I approach the bed. I sit down next to him and grab his hand.
"I'm sorry," I whisper. I squeeze his hand and he twitches, but doesn't wake. "I'm sorry," I sob, dropping my face into my free hand. "Please forgive me. I'm so sorry."
I'm rewarded with nothing but silence.
••••••••••
-Rue-
She's sobbing her heart out and he doesn't wake. I've heard that people in comas can hear things, so I thought it'd be nice to let her talk.
But she's not.
She's crying and I can't help. I should've let him talk to her. This way, even if her heart had been broken already, he wouldn't have been hurt too. It's all my fault.
I walk away from Luke's room in the B-wing, and drag myself into the cafeteria. Suddenly, something catches my eye-
It's the biscuit.
It's that nurse. The one who attended Luke 5 minutes ago...
The one who helped Aria too. She's the one who Luke talked to and had the idea to take Aria to therapy.
That biscuit who stole Luke away from Aria.
No, they aren't dating, but she spends more time with him than anyone. And I don't like her.
I walk up to her, and pull her aside. "Why are you doing this?" I hiss.
She looks confused. "What-"
I shove her against the wall. "Don't play stupid with me! Why are you helping us? Because to be honest, you're not. Not in the least."
Her expression changes immediately. "I'm trying to help, Rue."
I gasp. How did she know my-
"Yeah," she smirks, interrupting my thoughts. "I know you. Luke told me everything. He trusts me more than he trusts Alex." She suddenly drops her gaze. "He didn't deserve to be hurt like that. And neither did Alex."
I gasp. "You know about Alex?" I can't believe it. After all these months. . .
"Yes, I do. Luke told me everything, even about you. You abandoned Alex at the time he needed you the most. When he was kidnapped. He was pulled to the wrong side and you stood by to watch without even hesitating."
I drop my gaze and scoff. "And why do you care? You're just involved because you're a rebound. I mean, that's why you have Luke, right?"
I turn around and walk away. That biscuit can wait. I have something to do.
