                                                                                        I Do

I was on my way to the neighborhood mall without a doubt in my mind that I was going to propose to Jordan at dinner tonight with a beautiful diamond ring. It was her all along. That night when Lindy left me crying in the rain over an argument and Jordan happened to be walking by from the store. That night when I found out Lindy was cheating on me with another woman, and Jordan came over that night, and let me cry on her shoulder for what seemed like the millionth time. She was always so patient with me, so kind, loving, and understanding. She never failed to put a smile on my face, and me on hers. Deep in thought, I barely noticed the car to my right swerving in front of me. I came to a quick stop, heart racing as the asshole with no turn signal continued to the lane on my left. As I turned into the parking lot, my phone started ringing. It was Lindy. I answered. "Hello?" She barely heard my greeting. She jumped right into her scary, ruthless personality. "You're just going to toss me out like that? Like I meant nothing?" Unfortunately for her, she wasn't going to scare me this time. "Lindy, in all honesty, what the hell did we even have?" "How much longer were you planning on pretending that we had anything special while you used me for a quick orgasm every chance you got?" "When have you ever answered your phone during the day, or when you weren't just horny?" There was silence for a very long time. I continued: "Exactly. So why don't you just stop right there, and go buy a vibrator or something?" I hung up and walked into the mall after exiting and locking my car. I walked through the mall, browsing all of the stores stocked with materials from A to Z. I saw a happy couple at a pretzel stand, and my heart began to flutter. When I finally made my way to the ring store, I felt myself getting nervous. Was I being too impulsive, or was this long overdue? I guess I was about to find out. I walked in and a pretty lady greeted me. I walked straight to her as if her male co-worker to my left had said nothing. "Looking for anything in particular today?" I looked her in her hazel eyes and thought about Jordan. "I'm proposing to my girlfriend of three years today, and I need the perfect ring for her. She's no fairytale princess so I need something durable, but as beautiful as she is if anything comes close to that." She smiled at me as if I were complimenting her, and I saw her eyes shift to the other side of the store before she looked back at me. "I have the perfect ring for you." She walked over to where she was looking, and I followed. She picked up a beautiful ring that triggered every positive sense within me. "This is a three-carat diamond ring. There are only a few more like this in the world. I can tell you that your love is unique, like this ring." She put it in my hand, and I could not picture myself giving it back, so instead, I pulled out my debit card. "This is perfect."      I finally got home later that night with some more groceries and a smashing hot outfit for our date tonight. There was no way she could reject a hottie in a cashmere dress with a diamond ring. I cuddled with my Shih Tzu for about fifteen minutes before I hopped in the shower. I was shaving soaping and rinsing for about forty minutes before I exited, dried off, and got ready for my date. I walked out of my apartment with confidence as I spritzed on some of my new perfume from the mall, with my ring in my purse and my heart on my sleeve. I arrived at a restaurant that Jordan sent me the location to, and after I parked, I received a text on my phone. I thought it was her, but it wasn't—it was Lindy. "You made a mistake, and you'll realize that soon." I deleted the message and blocked her number with chills running down my spine. I started to get deep into thought about the things a twenty-two-year-old with a car who knew where I lived could do to me if I pissed her off enough. I almost shot through the roof of my car with the amount of fear that a firm knock on my car window gave me. It was only Jordan. She smiled at me and I opened my door, stepping out. I hugged her, and she hugged me back, only tighter. "You smell good baby." I looked her in her eyes and kissed her on the lips in response."
