The Perfect Family

Chapter 8: Emilie

The photography session is at 1:00pm and it is now 12:50pm. We stil have a long drive ahead of us and I am starting to get worried. Jack said that he would make sure that everything would work out. But having been with him for so long, I learned that when he sets something up to be perfect, he gets disappointed because they don't work out the way he planned. I would hate to have him feel as if he failed. I also learned throughout the years that when he sets his mind to something, he does not give up on it.

"Don't start panicking just yet. I can fix this" Jack says as he takes out his phone.

"What are you doing?" I ask with a shocked look on my face.

"Making sure that everythigng goes as according to plan. Go into my contacts and call Maddison" Jack instructs.

"Okay" I say as I look through the contacts and scroll down to the M section.

"Here we are" I says as I begin to call, put it on speaker and the phone starts to ring.

"Hello?" Maddison answers.

"Hey, Maddie" Jack says over my shoulder as I hold the phone.

"Hey, Jack! What's up?" Maddison asks.

"Listen, I know my wife booked a session scheduled for right now" Jack begins.

"Yup, the Alexander family. 1:00pm. Are you guys still okay for time?" Maddison asks.

"Well, we had a bit of a rough time getting out of the house and we traffic is brutal" Jack continues.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. I can wait for you guys if you want. One of the other clients cancelled anyway" Maddison offers.

"Really? That's great. Thanks, Mads. You're the best" Jack responds.

"No problem. Anything for you" Maddison replies.

"See you soon" I say.

"Bye" Maddison responds, then we hang up.

"What was that?" I ask.

"I know I should have told you before, but now seems like a better time. I know the photographer. She's a friend from NYU.  I told you everything would work out" Jack answers.

"My hero" Emiie smiles as we continue to make out way to Maddison's studio, which is called Dreaming in Pictures Studio.

When we get to the studio, Maddison is waiting for us in the lobby with her Canon camera around the collar of her long sleeve red and blue plaid shirt.

"Hey, guys" Maddison says as she sees us approaching.

"Hey, Mads. Its been so long" Jack says.

"Too long, giant slayer" Maddison says as she wraps her arm around Jack  to engage him  in a long embrace.

"Jack" I say as I wait for me to introduce her.

"Maddison Cooper, this is my wife, Emilie and my kids" Jack says as he gestures towards us.

"Its nice to meet you" I say as I hold out my hand.

"You too. I've heard a lot about you" Maddison responds.

As we make our way to one of the sets in the studio, Maddison begins to get a closer look at the kids.

"Wow, your kids are so much more beautiful in person. I've only ever seen a couple photos on Facebook. How old are they again?" Maddison asks.

"The twins are 4, Maddox is 2 and Kyson is almost 5 months" I answer.

"Perfectly adorable!" Maddison responds.
