Patton walked to the doors of the school with a bit of a skip.
He wasn't happy at all to be here, but he pretended like he was. He had to be so that his friends would like him.
He only had a few friends; Jeremy, Micheal, and Evan.
They were the only people that he hung out with since every one else was always with their own friends.
Time skip
Lunch time had finally come and Patton made sure to keep his smile all the way down to the cafeteria.
He didn't have lunch with his friends today so he sat by himself at the back right corner of the lunch room.
Nobody ever sat there except for Patton. Every student sat at their own tables everyday.
No, the school didn't have assigned seats, it's just that everyone preferred to 'own' their own table.
Patton stared at the table for a moment, thinking about his soulmate. He pushed his hand out of his sleeve and grimaced at the color.
He pulled his sleeve back down as quick as he could when he heard a voice at his table.
With a jump, he looked up to see a shortish kid wearing mostly orange and holding a lunch tray.
"Hey, can I sit here?" The person asked.
Patton sat there for a second or two in confusion before putting a smile back on his face.
"Yeah! Of course." He welcomed.
The orange kid sat down at the table. Patton had never seen him before but he immediately felt the need to become friends with him.
"Thanks." He was across the table from Patton.
Patton hummed in reply and then resumed his original pose.
"What's your name?" The guy asked.
"Huh? Oh, my name's Patton."
"Nice, my name is Christian, but you can call me Chris."
Patton grins.
"Why don't you have food yet?" Chris questions.
"Um," Patton hesitates just a little. "my family doesn't have enough money for school lunches.."
He keeps the fake smile and shrugs in Chris's direction.
"Dude.. I can get food for you..."
"No, it's ok."
"Alright..." Chris replies unsurely. "What ever you say.."
Lunch soon comes to a close. Patton was actually a bit happy now, he got Chris's phone number.
With a weak smile, he finished up his school day and headed home.
Once he got there, he pulled out his old, cracked phone from his pocket and took the sticky note with the number on it out of his backpack.
'214-555-7512' it read.
Quickly typing in the number, he texts it, too exited to double check if he got the number right.
He turns off his phone, expecting a text back in near ten minutes, but to his surprise, he gets one back not even five seconds later.
He reads the notification.
'1 new message from 214-555-7513:
Hello? May I ask who this is?'Patton excitedly taps on the notification and texts back.
'It's Patton, from lunch. This is Chris, right :p'
'I'm afraid I've never heard that name in my life. This is Logan, not Chris.'
Patton's heart drops.
He should've expected this. Chris must've seen his hand and decided to make fun of him.
He'd never get any actual friends. That's such a selfish thought. Why should he deserve real friends?
'Oh.. Sorry for bothering you...'
Tears stung Pattons eyes as he typed, but he forced them not to fall.
He turned off his phone once he sent the text and set it down beside him.
He was so happy about finally getting a real friend. Chris seemed so nice..
Hold on..
Chris got his name. He could tell the whole school that his arm was blue.
Patton started to freak out in the slightest, but a ding from his phone snapped him out of his thoughts.
He turned it on and read the text he received.
'Why are you sorry? You most likely got the wrong number.'
Patton's eyes widened.
God, he was so stupid.
He looked up at the number and saw that Logan was right. He texted back as fast as he could.
'Oh my god! I'm so dumb! I typed in a three instead of a two!'
'You're not dumb, Patton. If you were dumb then you wouldn't be able to type anything that you're typing right now.'
'Right, ha'
Patton exits the contact and carefully types in a new one, making sure it was correct this time. He sends a quick text and goes back to Logan's contact and renaming '214-555-7513' to 'Logan'.
'Well, I need to get back to work. Take care, Patton, I'll talk to you later.'
'Oh, ok. Bye, have a nice day <3'
Patton pauses once he notices what he typed.
"Fuck- why did I put a heart- I swear to god-"
Blue.
Logan seemed blue to Patton.
Blue.
