After The Fire Keeper. My take on when Brooks finally gets to read Zane's tell-all story.

"Hey, Ren?" Brooks asked as she searched a shelf next to her bed.

"Yeah?" Ren answered, looking away from where she was watching the slowly setting sun from the window.

"Where was that book you had- the one that Zane wrote?"

"Here," Ren walked over to her bed and pulled out the book in question from underneath. "Why?"

"Would you mind if I read it?" Brooks asked.

"You haven't already?" Ren raised an eyebrow.

"No, I haven't. I haven't gotten the chance," Brooks responded.

"Sure, then," Ren said, handing it over. "Just be careful with it."

"I will," Brooks promised. "I'm going to go read it outside."

"Fine by me," Ren said. "But maybe you should wait for tomorrow. The sun's going down."

"It'll be fine," Brooks assured her. "It's not like there's some demon who's going to abduct me."

"Like an alien..." Ren said thoughtfully.

"Oh, for the sake of Kukuulkaan," Brooks muttered. She'd heard enough of Ren's alien conspiracy theories to last several lifetimes. She quickly left and made her way down the sandy beach, choosing a spot to sit down and opened the book. After the sun had set, she took a small flashlight from around her neck and shone it on the pages.

"To whom it may concern," she started. "Here it is. The story you forced me to write, with the details up to the bitter and unhappy end. All so I could serve as your poster boy for what happens when anyone defies the gods..."

"Anyhow, delivery made. See you on the other side. Zane Obispo." The opening letter concluded. She turned to Chapter 1.

She sat there in the sand for a few hours, reading though the tale that the son of Hurakan had written. Ren and Itzamna has been right; it was a pretty good read. Her cheeks flushed as she read everything he had said about her. Well, it seems her suspicions had been right...

Brooks had just finished and was turning back to a few pages when a familiar yap rang through the now-dark air. Rosie came bounding up to her, tongue lolling out of her mouth, her sharp but loving eyes sparkling with joy upon seeing the half-Nawal. Brooks laughed and petted the hellhound's white patch on her head. She picked up a stick lying nearby and flung it down the beach as far as she could throw, watching her run after it, her short tail wagging like crazy. Her mind snapped back to the book she was holding. Wherever Rosie was, so was-

"Brooks!" Zane called, seeing her form on the beach. He ran up to her as Rosie bounded away chasing the stick.

"Hey, Zane," she greeted coolly as he caught his breath. He spotted the book under her arm.

"What're you reading?" He asked.

Brooks smirked and handed it to him. His eyes grew wide in panic. "How- how far did you get?"
