Progress report come today. Yay. *note the extreme sarcasm

Progress reports come halfway through each quarter, to... Well report your progress. It's pretty self explanatory.

I quickly glanced at mine and breathed a sigh of relief. I'll make it to the honors list. They give us our progress reports at the beginning of the day, probably so we can all dread showing them to our parents. I'm telling you, the office people are evil.

So anyway, I'm currently I a study hall. I'm im that mood where you don't really want to do anything, even though I've got loads of homework. I barley made it to the last period of the day, and even so, I fell asleep in math. Me. Broy actually went up to me and snapped his fingers front of my face to wake me up. The whole class snickered and my face flushed red, which probably didn't help my situation.

This year, homework has been almost too much for me. I still hang out with my friends and we have fun, but I barley have time for anything anymore. Except schoolwork. And of coarse... Volleyball.

Long story short, I made the team. Yay! Bad news, the practice went from after school ended until six. The seniors lasted another half hour longer than us, and because there are other girls competing for my position as spiker, I stay that extra half hour and just repeatedly hit against a wall. Just for practice.

Yup, you heard me. I'm a hitter, and proud. That is the position I had wanted science I knew what volleyball positions were... which happens to be at the beginning of the summer... don't judge me! I must have some sort of hidden talent for it or trust me, I would have got cut along with the six others. and some of them were really good!

Anyway, this is our first game. I hope I do well.

We arrived at the away game, and started to warm up. The JV team always played first, followed by the varsity team. I was playing first today. Along with the softmore. I was the only freshman. Those extra half hour hitting practices were really paying off.

We all got into our first positions: I was left-side hitter. The beginning of the game was kind of slow. It was usually just an accomplishment if someone could serve it over the net.

As the game went on though, the coaches made substations and the game was getting heated... If people still say that anyway.

The serve came right at my face. Like any sane person whose never been in a volleyball game before, I put my hands up to protect my face. The volleyball bounced off my forearms and straight up in the air. I ran. I told everyone afterwards that it was so the setter could get the ball. In reality, I just didn't want to get hit with it when it came down. Either way, I was congratulated for my "amazing play" afterwards.

Throughout that game, I got 2 chances to spike. The first time I swung and completely missed the ball. It sailed right by my face. Everyone thought i got hit with it because my face was so red.

The second time I made solid contact. Despite the impression I give people, I'm actually fairly strong. Not trying to brag of anything, but on the fitness test, I did a whopping 40 push-ups! Queue applause!

After I hit the ball, it slammed into the ground with a satisfying slap against the wooden gym floor. And that is the story of how the coach decided I should become a spiker. Just kidding! I asked prior to that moment, but boy, did that hit feel good!

As the season went on, id stay the extra 30 minutes to practice. I'd laugh and have fun with the other girls before practices of games began, and by the second half of the season I was my full self. By that I mean I was fully comfortable with being my sarcastic, self.

I made a couple new friends and before our practices we'd walk off of school property and to the end of the street to the hot dog stand. This was a small shack with lots of food. I'd always get the hot chocolate. What can I say? I'm a chocolate girl.

One day at practice, the JV coach didn't show up, so Percy ran the freshman team. He was a junior who was on the boys volleyball team and acted as a manager for the girls team. He was really good, and had a strong hit so I'd usually ask him for help with my spikes.

We were going though practice and at the last hour, Percy let us scrimmage. I was left hitter. As we were playing, I, just like all the other girls, made a few mistakes. I was feeling a bit sluggish that day, but I wasn't doing the worst.

The ball was on the other side and someone set a low bump over the net. I ducked to let Maddie behind me get it, and she bumped it right to me. This seemed like a good chance to try some hitting so I took a swing. My mistake.

It hit the net and thudded To the ground.

Julia, who played middle hitter, sirens to me with a scowl fix on her face and and demanded "what was that? don't you know your supposed to pass it three times before you hit it over? You were supposed tot pass to me!"

I looked down at me feet. I'd never been very good at defending myself and so I tended to let people walk all over me. Julia took this as an opportunity to correct my every mistake for the rest of the practice. She never corrected anyone else, only me. At one point, the entire gym was silent as she scolded me, even the Varsity team. Every time I'd just mumble an apology and hope she'd forget about it.

Towards the end of practice, a ball was bumped low over the net. Out of instinct, I instantly hit it back over, but it landed just across. The out of bounds line. I took a deep breath and waited for my harsh correction.

Julia had anger in her eyes, like it was unbelievable that I had actually made the team. I mean hello? Your not perfect either!

I didn't say anything as she started her long prologue on what I did wrong.

This time however, halfway through her speech, Percy stepped in and said "you know, she was actually doing the right thing. What were you talking about?"

This shut Julia up. Every freshman wanted to be in Percy's good side. He was an upper class men. I was grateful but didn't dare look at him, in fear that Julia would start up another rant. The practice ended, and Julia didn't even look my way.

As the season went on, I learned who to talk to and who not to talk to. I learned the friendly and the arrogant. I was going to be devastated when the season ended.
