I felt frozen. Paralyzed by fear as the scene played out in front of me. Completely taken aback, I had no idea what to do as the fighting ensued. Mason had managed to loosen the man he had called Matthias' hand from the vice-like grip he had on his throat. Mason swung at him as soon as he got the chance, but Matthias reacted with lightning-fast reflexes unlike I had ever seen and caught Mason's fist in his hand. Squeezing it until I heard the sound of Mason's knuckles popping. Matthias grinned in satisfaction as Mason howled in pain.

Abandoning the fist he had trapped within is hands, Matthias grabbed the collar of Mason's jacket and slammed him against the wall. Mason's head landing just beside of the hunting knife that still protruded from the drywall. Mason bared his teeth at Matthias threateningly which only made Matthias growl in agitation as he asserted his dominance over him.

Matthias moved his face so that it was directly in front of Mason's, anger burning in his eyes. "How longs it been Mason, huh? How many fucking years have you been gone? 5? 6? All this time I've watched your brother drink himself into an early grave because he can barely live with himself and yet here YOU are shacking up with some other girl? Like nothing ever happened?"

Matthias tightened his grip on Mason, shoving him even harder against the wall. "Have you forgotten about her already? About your family?"

The venom coated words fell from Matthias' tongue as he pressed Mason so forcefully that the wall began to crack and buckle under the pressure. "Have you forgotten everything your brother has done for you? All of it? He practically raised you after your mother died and this how you repay him?!"

Mason snarled ferociously in response to Matthias' verbal assault, finally mustering the strength to shove Matthias off of him. Matthias took a step back, regaining his footing almost immediately after Mason had pushed him.

"Repay him? If it weren't for him Laikyn would still be here!" Mason yelled as Matthias looked down at him.

"That wasn't his fault and you FUCKING know that. I was there, Mason. I saw what happened. He was protecting you!" Matthias argued, moving closer to Mason once more.

The rage swelled in Mason's eyes, "BULLSHIT!"

Without wasting another second, Matthias swung a closed fist at Mason. The connection making a sickening crunch as blood poured from Mason's nose. Mason retaliated, tackling Matthias to the tile floor with a hard thud. The two of them exchanging blows until finally, Matthias gained the upper hand by pinning Mason to the ground.

"Try and fight me all you want. I know all your tricks." Matthias spat, drawing his fist back once more. "Your days of running are over and you'll hear what I have to say whether you want to or not."

I couldn't take it anymore. It was obvious that these two had a history, but regardless of that, I couldn't stomach seeing Mason hurt. Despite how angry, hurt, and completely confused I was by the entire situation I knew that I needed to do something. Throwing myself between two full-grown men in the middle of a brawl probably wouldn't be the best idea under normal circumstances, but I didn't care.
