I looked past the emptiness in you, past the ice-cold bitterness of your soul.
My gaze I focused on meaning and truth, what lies beneath your false gold.
Your shadows brought darkness, but within them I saw only true beauty.
As bright as a newborn star, you'd shine on, perfection in all of its glory.
Blinded was I by the greatness of you, oblivious to what was to come.
Little did I know; the love I poured out, would mean not a thing to "the one".
In buckets I gave you my deepest affections, which ended-up left on some shelf.
...If only my past self had known back then, I had no love left for myself.
