Over Familiarity

I was once more on my own today, Edd said he didn't have time to talk today. I sighed, figuring that maybe i was the root of their past problems. I began to internally scold myself, i shouldn't be dreading today. It was my first day on the job. Last night i'd looked through my applications and found a open spot in a cafe. That sounded like fun so i didn't hesitate with my decision. I was accepted so quickly, it could have been considered 'on the spot.' While i walked my stare traversed the crowds, a twinge of hope sparked within me that maybe i'd see someone i could truly recognize. Something finally caught my eye. A red hoodie and two spikes of caramel hair jutting from the crowd. They had their back turned to me, brandishing what looked like a photograph of someone to a man at hot dog stand. I was drawn to this man, and began to make my way through the clearing in the crowd towards them. However a sudden influx of people crossed my path causing me to halt. I shifted from foot to foot impatiently before forcing myself through to the man who sold hot dogs. They were gone. No red hoodie, no telltale brunette hair. My head whipped around frantically, my hair bouncing about. I felt my heart sink as i had gotten my hopes a little too quickly and hung my head while retreating to the sidewalk.

i arrived at the cafe a few minutes early, just enough time to get dressed into my uniform. Now this cafe wasn't your average cafe. It required waitresses to wear sleek maid's dresses, on the other hand men wore what resembled a butler's uniform. Indeed this place was quite fancier than an average cafe and very nice, warm aesthetic. My boss, who was also a girl, but in her upper twenties, greeted me with a warm smile. She briskly showed me the ropes before leaving me to my devices. The first customers showed up and i proudly wore my best customer service smile.

While I carefully balanced a platter of coffee cups, two men in odd uniforms ambled in. They didn't appear to be here for a nice cup of tea, rather to discuss important business. One of the men, shorter than the other, had a head of light brown hair, comically thick brows, and a small scar over his right eye. He was the one holding a roll of paper, which he unrolled and began asking around. 'just like that man in the square.' i thought and steered clear of them, my heart thumping in my ears. Why was i scared of them? i looked over my shoulder while passing behind the counter to get a look at the other guy, who had deep chocolate hair and odd bangs. He was the tallest of the two. A pang of recognition hit me, nearly causing the plate of eclairs i gripped to topple to the floor. I was transfixed on them as they hovered from table to table, brandishing the same photo over and over again. One person at a table nodded and motioned in my general direction. i froze, feeling the air knocked from my airs like i had just been kneed in the stomach. They turned, eyes widening upon seeing me. They approached quickly, too quickly. However i couldn't move a muscle, i was frozen in place like a deer in headlights. A momentary vision flashed before my eyes. It was dark, i was in a car. There were the two men sitting in the front seats and another, i couldn't quite put my finger on, sat to my left. I tried to look at him, but all i could see was a fuzzy black hole where the face should have been. I was torn from this fleeting memory once being seized roughly by the arm. Now i was face to face with these two men, each looking upon me with a twinge of hope.

"Y/N! we finally found you." Spoke the taller one with a grin coming to his lips. " #### will be so happy to see you!"

The name came out fuzzy, almost inaudible. I yanked my arm away and looked at them, an absolutely frightened expression against my face. The tall man look surprised, and so did his shorter companion.

"I-I don't know you." I declared, but something felt wrong about those words. I staggered back, away from them. Peoples' eyes were glued to us, like what was going on was more entertaining to them than their food. The shorter brunette took a wavering step forward,

"Y/N..please-" He pleaded but i shook my head. I whisked myself around and stormed through the kitchen, snatching my duffel bag of belongings along the way. Sure enough they gave chase, crashing through the kitchen as i exited the back door and raced through the alleyways to get away from their. My flats slowed me as well as the black and white maid's dress that flapped around frantically in the wind. Yet, their shouts and voices grew further and further away until they were at last out of my reach. I stood shakily grasping my bag in front of me while i soaked in my unrecognizable surrounds. While i examined the slum like alleys, i drew in deep ragged breaths. I had no idea where i was, and i wanted to break down because of that, but i knew i couldn't stay here any longer. Those over familiar men could be on top of me soon if i didn't get out of here soon.
So i wandered aimlessly til it was the afternoon and the daylight was beginning to wane. I had finally reached the desolate streets and began to make my way back to my apartment. The empty streets, apart from the odd car driving by with music on full blast, were unsettling. I still clutched my bag close as i slowly pass by each and every ominous alleyway. As if things couldn't get any worse, i was bashed across the head with something that wasn't enough to knock me out cold. It made me drop my bag, but that wasn't what the criminal wanted. I rubbed my head and groaned, moving away just as the criminal lunged. He stumbled, nearly loosing balance entirely. Muscle memory took control over my body as i swiftly swung into a round house kick, which knocked the guy's teeth out as he attempted to turn towards me. He shouted in pain and grabbed me by my arms, grinning like a wild psychopath. I glared and kneed him in the stomach which caused him to let go. I then grabbed the plastic pipe he tried to knock me out with and used it against him. Now the criminal was the one out cold. I dropped the pipe and bolted back home. I didn't want to stay there any longer than i needed to.
