I cried. I was powerless to stop the tears as they flowed in waterfalls down my cheeks. Vivian hugged me close to her while Jo wrapped a blanket around my shoulders, covering the tears in my clothing. Tess was preparing a warm cup of tea while Jordan had rushed to the infirmary for help. I gasped for breath in between sobs, still trying to take in all that had happened.
I was mumbling almost incoherently into Vivian’s shoulder, my tears staining her green sweater as I shook in her arms.
“They almost- they almost r-r-”
I couldn’t finish my sentence as a new influx of tears cascaded down and I moaned, completely devastated.
The only thing that pulled me from the emotional wreckage I had been crushed under were Vivian’s next words.
“I know. It’s okay. You’ll be okay. I promise. It’s okay. I’m sorry. It’s happened to me too.”
