Chapter 1
The Doctor found himself on Earth...a familiar past Earth. Earth, 2008. It was an Earth under siege by Daleks.
Daleks...
Tiny squid-like creatures, mutated from the once Humanoid Kaleds, and placed into metal shells of hatred. They are rage filled Battle Tanks without any mercy.
Sounds of screams and energy weapon discharges filled the air, including an "EXTERMINATE!!" here and there. The Doctor was running as fast as he could through the streets to find out where a certain scream was coming from.
"HELP!"
The voice sounded very familiar among the screams of others. It was full of fear and confusion. The Doctor could never turn down a call of distress...but this one seemed different.
Stealthily, the Doctor avoided as many Daleks as he could to avoid being seen, especially since was at least one other Doctor on the planet at the current time. The Doctor's past has a very strange way of catching up to him, but this was different. This timeline was seemingly erased when the Doctor 'restarted' the Universe with another Big Bang. It greatly confused the Doctor how he could possibly be here. And then it hit him. "Time is unfractured." He shook his head. "The Time Lords are definitely back in control..."
Looking around the war-torn streets, the Doctor grew anxious. "I can't be seen...this is absolutely zappy. Crossing my own timeline is bad..." said the Doctor while sprinting through the chaos, his coat and hair flapping in the wind. Daleks were converging on the center of the city, most likely to round up Humans. This gave the Doctor a fair amount of breathing room.
The smoke had started to clear and gave the Doctor a better view of his surroundings. A small recognizable costume shop appeared within the Doctor's field of view. He now realized where he was and ran to nearby cover for a reevaluation of his plan. "Okay...if crossing my timeline is bad this is bad...very, very bad..."
"HELP! PLEASE! ANYONE?"
The Doctor peered from his cover and his eyes met two small figures hunched down on the street. Looking closer, the figures appeared to be two small children. One a boy, and one a girl. They were no more than nine, maybe ten, maybe eleven. The Doctor had a hard time with ages above 7. But the boy was hurt. Seeing this, the Doctor instinctively jumped from his cover and sprinted to the two kids. "Hi, I'm here to help," said the Doctor quietly to avoid drawing attention.
"Hello...mister, my friend is hurt. He cut his leg badly after falling! What are those flying trash cans?" asked the little girl.
The little boy was holding his leg in pain, not speaking.
The Doctor put his hand through his hair and tightened his question mark belt. "Well, you see," the Doctor started examining the boy's leg, "Those 'trash cans' are called Daleks...and they are very bad. We need to get you two inside." He looked up toward the shop. "Is this place yours?"
The little girl looked up at the Doctor. "No, it's my friend's store. His dad and brother own the 'Grave Mistake'...it's kinda scary in there."
The Doctor laughed. "All these explosions, flying mini-tanks, screaming, and you are scared of the costume shop?"
