Big move, New school

It's just like any other day, and my alarm goes off at 6 a.m. School. It's the one spot I don't particularly appreciate visiting. I suppose every adolescent despises going to school.

However, since I've been here, I've learned to appreciate it more. I met... well, I didn't meet him, but I did run into him a few times in the school halls. He's a total badass and quite attractive. I'm not sure why I'm so smitten with him. He is popular with all of the girls at school. At the very least, he noticed me.

**Start flashback**

I got lost on my first day at school, and the corridors were packed with students. Kayla could not show me around because she had cheerleading practice this morning and had to leave for school early. I was gazing around, trying to figure out where I needed to go. I didn't check where I was going because I'm a clumsy girl, and I collided into a hard chest. I ended myself on my butt in the middle of the corridor, surrounded by children. Tyler is the name of the guy I said was so good-looking. He, like me, is a sophomore.

He assisted me in gathering my strewn-about books and papers. Most of the students resumed their chats, but a few students remained gazing, and I overheard whispering. But it didn't bother me. Tyler and I wandered the halls until we came across my locker. On the walk there, we made small talk before realizing we had the same AP classes for the entire week. Then, a few seconds later, the bell rang, and we had to rush to class. Because we had AP English first, we strolled together and continued to converse.

As I walked a little behind him to class, I couldn't help but catch a glimpse of his butt.

**End of flashback**

Present-day

"Quinton, get your ass downstairs for breakfast, or you and Kayla will be late for school," Uncle Jimmy yelled, jolting me out of my reverie. I got into the shower and immediately began brushing my teeth. Before heading downstairs, I applied deodorant, threw on whatever clothes were in front of me, and grabbed my bag.

"I've arrived." I panted a little as I tried to catch my breath. "You're so out of shape, Quinton," Kayla remarked as she ate her breakfast, smiling deviously. "Yeah, whatever, at least I'm down here," I say. I retaliate fiercely, my face scrunched up in annoyance at her remark. Uncle Jimmy chastised Kayla, "Be nice. Her mother just died," as he set my food in front of me.

Kayla is done with her breakfast as I pick on my food, not feeling too hungry. I'm not sure what's going on with her today. She's typically pleasant. Uncle Jimmy confirms my thoughts while he brews his coffee. "Ignore her; you know how nice she is. You've seen her in that light. Quinn, I have one word for you...period." Then it hit me: I made an 'o' shape with my mouth, completely oblivious to why she was in such a bad mood this morning. As he sees me sad and Kayla upset, uncle Jimmy returns to the dining table with his coffee. With his hilarious faces, he tries to make us laugh, but Kayla doesn't have it. But I laughed because it was amusing.

We all grabbed our belongings, Uncle Jimmy dropped us off on his way to work as soon as I finished eating, and uncle Jimmy finished his coffee. We arrived at school, and as Kayla steps out of the car and walks towards the school building, Uncle Jimmy yells my name before I can respond. "Hey, Quinn?" "Yeah?" I return with a nod.

"Don't worry about Kayla. You know she likes you." When she has an opportunity to facetime with her older brother and sister, all she does is gush about you." With a melancholy expression, I nod in agreement. I try to go again, but Uncle Jimmy catches my attention before I can. "And, hey!...change that expression to one of joy." I'm not too fond of it when you're sad. Also, please make an effort to make some new friends today, okay?''

"I understand. Kayla has made me a little sad today. But don't worry, I'm not offended. Uncle Jimmy, I'll do my best to make pals. However, I am unable to provide any guarantees." He nods, is satisfied with my response, and walks away. As soon as I close the door and wave, he drives off to work. I turn around to see Kayla has already left and is nowhere to be seen. She had to be trying to get away from me, but I don't take any offence.

**Lunch**

When the lunch bell rings, everyone hurries to the exit. Everyone runs out into the hallways, which quickly fill up in a matter of seconds. Before leaving the lesson, I took my time packing my belongings.

In the crowd, I didn't want to get wounded or knocked over. I have a petite build and am quite short; therefore, I am frequently overlooked. So I waited till the corridors were less congested for a few minutes. I didn't notice Tyler standing in front of me, attempting to capture my attention as I was waiting for it to happen.

''hey, Sorry, I was probably daydreaming." I lightheartedly laugh it off. "It's OK; it's not a problem. Would you like to have lunch with me, and I will introduce you to some of my friends?" Since I've been here, I've always had lunch alone, so I considered it. It'd be good to make some new acquaintances. Uncle Jimmy thinks it'll help me adjust to my new surroundings. That is, it will assist me in diverting my attention away from my mother's death.

On the way to the lunch hall, we engaged in some more small conversation. I noticed I was growing a little shy once we arrived. "As for the rest of them, they wouldn't want us to be seen together." Tyler brushed off my remark as insignificant and held my hand in case I changed my mind and bolted. "I'll put them in their place if they say anything. Don't be concerned. You're going to be alright. "He reassures me.

"Hello, everyone, this is Quinton. This is everyone, Quinton. Tyler K, Laura, Sara, Charlie, Tom, and Sammy are the team members." As everyone stimulates their greetings to me, I timidly gesture hello at them. Tyler and I, our hands were linked, and her face shifted as one of the girls' eyes drifted to ours with a grimace. Tyler saw, and I'm unsure what he said to her because I blanked out, but she smiled again.

**End of school day**

I was two metres from the door when a hand grabbed my shoulder as I was about to exit my last class of the day. I turned around to see the offender on the floor after making karate moves on the person. "Oh my God, Tyler! Please accept my heartfelt apologies. I had no idea it was you. Allow me to assist you." He raised his arm and motioned for me to assist; I grabbed his arm and he lifted himself.

"hey!" I say this while giggling a little. "I'm sorry, I didn't intend it that way." We exchanged glances for a few seconds before cackling like a pair of hyenas. We didn't realize the teacher was still in the room until she cleared her throat, at which point we both turned around and stared at her in surprise for a few moments. Then we start giggling again, and this time we walk away.

"So today's classes were interesting?" Tyler interrogates me as he always does. "I suppose," I shrug with a bored look on my face. Tyler looks at me as if taken aback by my response. "what?" "You constantly find a way to correct the teacher or engage in an argument with the teacher or another student. That's tedious?!..... You're insane." I chuckle as I playfully punch him in the arm. "If there's anyone crazy, it's you." We continue to laugh and talk till we arrive outdoors and in the parking lot.

"Well, my car is over there; would you like a ride home?" Tyler is willing to help. I sigh and shake my head. "No, I'm fine. Kayla has cheerleading practice today, so I'll be walking." Tyler inquires if I'm certain, and I respond that it's fine because it's only a five-minute walk into town.

It's only a five-minute walk, but Tyler insisted on taking me, and I relented. "All right, let's go." I walked over to his car, pretending to be enraged, but Tyler, being the tickle monster he is, proceeded to tickle me so hard that I burst out laughing, causing many of the neighbouring students to stare in our direction. I turn down the level of my chuckles, but I'm out of breath, so I urge Tyler to stop.

The return trip was pleasant but brief. Tyler was supposed to drive away, but I was taken aback when I realized he was my next-door neighbour.
