Commerce City High School

Laura stared intently in class. Even though the lesson itself was complicated, she just could not tear her eyes away from the man in front. Joyce was not kidding at all.

            Mr. Harvey Potters was gorgeous.

His face was like a movie star, with a model’s well-sculpted body. His deep bass voice reaches up to the far ends of the classroom, grabbing everyone’s attention, but most especially the girls. He was the type of guy any woman would fall head over heels for. And he was also very smart. They were discussing Homer’s poetry, and it was the first time Greek classics became easy for Laura to understand. Mr. Potters’ explanations were very clear.

“So class, do you have any questions?” his voice was music to her ears.

“Yes, sir,” one of the students raised her hand, “How old are you?”

Groans from the boys in class could be heard as the teacher gave the girl a faint smile.

“Why do you need to ask?” Mr. Potters inquired.

“Well,” the girl was blushing, “you see, uhm, uh….”

            “All right, I’m actually twenty-four.”

            “What?!”

            “No way?!”

The entire class gasped in surprise. Even Laura was caught off-guard herself. She never thought that Mr. Potters was that young. But she did hear from other teachers that he practically skipped high school, which was why he was able to graduate from college at a young age. Well, since he was smart, that was to be expected. Laura turned to her Joyce, who was sitting right beside her. There was a huge smile on the girl’s face.

“Two more years, and I’d be ready,” she murmured dreamily.

Laura simply shook her head. From the corner of her eye, she noticed Rick staring intently at her. When he noticed her looking at him, he quickly turned away.

            Weirdo, she thought.

Mr. Potters was still in the process of calming the class down when the lunch bell rang. Everyone began to file out of the classroom. Laura was fixing her books when the teacher went to her.

“Miss Collins,” Mr. Potters was very concerned, “I was informed that you were confined in the hospital for the last three days. Are you all right now?’

“Uh, yes, sir,” Laura replied, “I’m as good as new.”
