3 years later...

It's been a while since we left high school.

A lot has also happened in that time.

We all have turned 21 and started our lives.

Matt and I have moved into a little apartment in the city together.

Andy and Talia have found a cute apartment near the beach.

Then there were James and Britt, who decided to go overseas for 2 months together.
----------------------------------------------
It was a Monday morning.
I woke up to the tune of my alarm and turned to my left after I stopped the sound.

I peered up at Matt who was clearly not affected by the alarm one bit... I'm a light sleeper so I wake up from the slightest hum, unlike sleeping beauty over here.

I gave him a slight bump and he snorted a little as he opened up his eyes. He rubbed his eyes and groaned. "Please don't tell me it's time for work." He complained, in his husky morning voice. "You betcha it is." I answered with a devilish grin.

Matt rubbed his temples and sighed. "Regretting those drinks aren't you?" I asked with a light giggle at the end. He just shoved me, muttered a shut up and then rolled off the bed, taking the doona with him...

"Seriously Matt? It's the middle of fucking winter!" I called out to the idiot in his little cocoon. "Come on Des... Can't we just chuck a sickie?" He asked as he popped his head up. I looked over at him raising my eyebrow. "Please" he begged, "I really don't wanna go." All I did in response was roll my eyes.

I stood up and walked towards the cupboard and called over my shoulder, "Stop being a sook and get ready, cause I'm not going to be the only one paying for these fucking bills here Matt. I warned you not to drink, but what do you do? Not listen to me of course because you just had to beat James at bear pong." I called out, as I threw my hands in the air and turned around.

"Really Des? Your honestly gonna make an argument out of this? For fucks sake," Matt lightly yelled as he stood and walked closer to me. "Yes I am Matt because lately you've been slacking off on work, getting drunk a lot and not helping at all around the apartment!" I yelled, "Wait Des-" "Let me finish! I work my ass of everyday, come back here, clean your mess, make you dinner and then go to bed! That is my life every day and you're just not seeing it! Well I'm sick of your bull shit Matthew! Can't you just fucking stand back and see that I'm not the only person living here, and that you're actually in a relationship with someone who loves you so much, and has been with you through plenty of shit. The least you could do is step up and work with me..." I sobbed, a few tears trickling down my cheeks, "Just..." My mind went hazy as I turned away from him.

I felt Matt's strong arms wrap around me as he squeezed, while pressing his head into the crook of my neck. "Des... Please don't cry." He whispered into my ear. He then spun me around and gently wiped the tears as he looked me straight in my eyes.

It was around 11:40pm, meaning it was the middle of the night.

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing ever so loudly. I groaned and rolled over Matt to reach my phone on the bedside table, it was Andy on the line. As I answered the phone Matt grabbed my waist and asked what I was doing. I just shushed him and asked what Andy wanted.

"Des you and Matt need to get here now!" he yelled excitedly.

"Go where?" I complained.

"To the hospital! Britt's having a fucking baby!"

I hung up the phone and turned on the lamp.

"Why!" Matt wined. "Get up now! Britt's having her baby! Come on!"

Matt sat up and we both ran to the cupboard throwing on the first things we could grab. Attempting to grab warm and comfortable items. While I was in the bathroom doing my hair, Matt went to the kitchen to make the coffee.

Once I was finished I jogged into the kitchen and thanked him for the coffee as we both downed it in seconds.

After we brushed our teeth and locked up we were in the car and driving.

The hospital was fairly close so it was only a 20 minute drive there.

Once we arrived, we were out of the car and heading towards the building. Once we'd reached the inside and asked for her room we entered an elevator and reached the third floor.

Her room was at the end of the hall, and as we neared her door Matt and I turned to each other with joyful smiles across our faces.

It'd been nine months and now the day had finally come.

Although technically we weren't family to the baby, Britt and James said that the baby will grow up having us in its life so much that we will be the closest thing to family. So as of today, in a few hours we hope. We will all be aunties and uncles to a little bundle of joy.

Once we made it to her room, I was by her side in seconds with Talia to her left.

I stayed with Britt through the procedure leading up to the actual birth. As her contractions got worse her screams got louder. James was at her side and holding her hand the whole way though.

Within a few hours the baby was coming. James was with her while Talia was inside taking a few pictures of the baby once it was all wrapped up. She took a few of the baby in Britt's arms and also in James'. Once we were able to enter the room we all gave Britt the biggest hug for doing the most difficult and painful thing she's probably ever have to go through in her life. She'll be such a great mother.

We asked what the sex of the baby was, as they chose to leave it as a surprise. Britt looked up at us from her baby and softly replied, "A boy." She turned towards James and smiled. "We've decided to call him Jeremy."

It'd been a week since Jeremy was born and we all couldn't get enough of him. He had James' eyes and nose but Britt's hair and smile. They were both so crazy about him.

The day came though on Easter where everything good was gone. Easter morning and there is a mass explosion over the news... a petrol truck near Britt and James' place went up in flames.

They were gone.

The flames covered 95 percent of the house.

Matt and I were called into the hospital quick as well as Talia and Andy.

James and Britt got out and rushed to the hospital but there wasn't much they could do to save them, it was too late.

Jeremy however survived just in the nick of time from a very on the ball firefighter. We will forever be grateful for his bravery in sprinting through the roaring flames to the end where Jeremy lay crying.

He survived.

Luckily Britt and James were quick to fill out who'd have custody of Jeremy if anything to happen to them...

Talia picked up Jeremy looked down at this tiny baby that had a burn on his lower left rib about an inch and a half long. She held him tightly as she had trouble containing the tears, never wanting to let him go.
