chapter 4

❛I cannot hold my tongue,
you give me much to say❜

DEPENDING on how one would look at the situation, no one would take notice of Tsukishima's weakness of Yamaguchi. He was impassive on the topic at hand: Kageyama grilling him for not caring about anyone but himself, but in his head Tsukishima was saying all types of things about how he really only cared for Yamaguchi since he's been there for him the longest. They'd been there for each other in trying times, and it was a mutual care.

Their argument on escalated when Tsukishima brought up Kageyama's past: "you weren't too fond of anyone else Your Highness, or did you forget about that?"

Kageyama's eye twitched along with his fist that was at his side, but a blur of orange stepped between them. Tsukishima could feel the tug and familiar touch of Yamaguchi, and he spun around with a scowl on his face. He curled his lip at the two idiots behind him and pushed away from them, a trailing Yama following. They grabbed their bags, a heavy air surrounding them.

Ukai has agreed to let the team go early since he was tired and exhausted himself, and Kageyama had come up to Tsukishima after to complain about his lack of sportsmanship. They were the same side of a coin and butted heads, and only their friends could stop them from physically fighting.

Outside, Tsukishima was fuming. His hands were shaking with anger and his teeth were grating each other, his jaw ticking from how tight he'd been clenching it. When they rounded the corner of the gym and headed to one of their houses, Tsukishima growled, "I fucking hate Kageyama. He's too uptight, hotheaded, and self-centered."

Yamaguchi ghosted the tips of his fingers over one of Tsukishima's fist, but the blond pulled away. He didn't want to hurt Yamaguchi in any way, and he knew if he would hold the boy's hand, he'd crush it from his tight he'd squeeze it. But, he let himself be stopped by the green-haired boy in the middle of the sidewalk.

Yamaguchi looked up to Tsukishima with caring eyes and bit the corner of his lips. He softly spoke, "hey, Tsukki, forget about him. You know he's just like that when Hinata doesn't hit his crazy serves." Yamaguchi took the chance and placed his hands on the warm cheeks of Tsukishima, sturdily looking into his golden-brown eyes behind his glasses. "Plus, I know you care about people other than yourself, otherwise you would have honestly punched every single one of them."

Tsukishima rolled his eyes, but closed his eyes and pressed his forehead against Yamaguchi's with a soft thud. The middle blocker breathed, "I've thought about it though," with a faint smile painted on his lips.

He backed away to look at Yamaguchi and found him shaking his head, taking his hands and the warmth away from his cheeks. The walk back to Tsukishima's house was spent silently thinking from the two. Yamaguchi was thinking of a way to casually ask Tsukki to get food with him, and Tsukishima was trying his hardest to not think about how pretty Yamaguchi looked up close with all his freckles and hazel eyes staring at him.

"You're not coming in?" Tsukishima questioned when he stood on his porch and Yamaguchi at the bottom step. The blond nodded to the door and stated, "c'mon, I need help with my literature."

He didn't, but it was the only way he knew to get Yamaguchi to come inside for sure. If proved to work since Yamaguchi joined Tsukishima inside, slipping off his shoes at the front door. He placed them by the step and waited for his blond friend.

Akiteru popped his head out from the kitchen and greeted the pinch server. Yama smiled and followed Tsukishima who headed for his room, calling out that Yamaguchi was there and they'd be in his room. The blond dropped his bags on the floor and drank from the water bottle on his floor.

Instead of working on his homework, Tsukishima went on his phone and played the Jurassic Park game he had. He felt Yamaguchi sit beside him and look over his fingers at the game.

Yamaguchi chuckled, "you and your dinosaurs."

"Shut up Yamaguchi."

"Call me Tadashi," Yamaguchi blurted out. The other guys on the team called him it, so Tsukishima was the only one who called him Yamaguchi. He didn't mind, but he wanted Tsukki to call him by his name like everyone else.

Tsukishima barely looked up from his game to scoff, "no." Yamaguchi's eyebrows frowned and asked why. "Everyone on the team calls you that, and I don't want to be like them."

Tsukishima finally looked up and stared honestly into Yamaguchi's eyes. His eyes looked over the server's scrawny face, connecting his freckles into constellations. Yamaguchi's face scrunched together in confusion at the reasoning, and Tsukishima decided to further explain.

"If I call you Tadashi like everyone else, then I am just like them and I don't want to be. I like being the only one to call you Yamaguchi or Yama; no one else does and I like that. You're the only one who calls me Tsukki, and I'd rather only have that, it's special."

He went back to his game and didn't see the growing furious blush coming onto Yamaguchi, spreading to his ears and neck. Tsukishima didn't see the twinkle in Yamaguchi's eyes when he realized Tsukishima practically told him he was special to him. Everything made the server's insides flip; he couldn't just forget about Tsukki's comment, nor stop playing the words over and over again in his head.

They were interrupted by a knock on Tsukishima's door, then his mother coming in. He grinned at Yamaguchi and asked how he was before telling her son that she had made food for him. She added that she'd make some for his friend and Tsukishima nodded.

"You're mom is the best, Tsukki," Yamaguchi admitted and stood up for the food. He encouraged Tsukishima to come along, and he put away his phone to follow the green-haired boy.

a/n: I'm already pumped for next chapter. I also don't think this book will be too long. It definitely shouldn't be longer than 15 chapters that's for sure.
