I was about to respond when Mrs. Bentley made a second announcement.

"By the way, here's a tip to make this easier for you. If you say a random word before snatching the ring, it'll increase your chances of getting the nuts to fall into the flask. Don't ask me how - but try it. Don't forget that there are four different flasks - they all have different opening sizes. Okay, get to work now," the teacher added before returning to her computer.

"This lab seems pretty fun," I commented.

"Yeah, it does. I'll go get the supplies," he offered.

I nodded graciously and got out the lab worksheet from the physics workbook.

Zack returned shortly with the standard flask, a ring, and some hex nuts and began to set up the lab, stacking the ring on the flask and the nuts on the ring.

"Do you want to test it out first?" he asked.

No, I did not - but I wasn't about to back down.

"Sure. Ready to see my super ninja skills?"

"Oh please," he scoffed. "I bet mine are better."

I shrugged, a hint of smile on my lips. "We'll see, Mophead."

I stood up from the lab stool and slowly walked to the ring.

"Mitochondria," I blurted out, instantly snatching the ring as the word left my mouth.

The hex nuts fell into a perfect line inside the flask.

I grinned in triumph at Zack's slightly shocked expression as he looked back and forth between me and the flask.

"Damn," he swore. "How am I going to top that?"

We exchanged glances and I giggled, which made my task of resetting the objects a bit more difficult. "I'm pretty sure you'll be fine."

"Alright," he said, rubbing his hands together. "Are you ready for the best hoop snatching you've ever seen in your entire life?"

"Don't mess up."

He shot me a disappointed look. "Seriously, Raven?"

I shrugged, unable to hide the smirk on his face.

"Swing," he blurted, proceeding to snatch the hoop.

Two of the five hex nuts hit the rim of the flask, one of them dropping in and the other bouncing off.

"Hah! Who's the super ninja here?" I grinned in triumph.

His unreadable green eyes locked onto mine. "That's unfair. I was distracted," Zack admitted.

"By what?"

"It's wh- never mind."

I raised my eyebrows in confusion. "It's what?"

"Don't worry about it," he said, breaking my gaze.

Okay then.

"I'll get the next flask."

Before I could question him further, he'd already left to the supplies cart, which was across the classroom.

That was weird. I wondered what Zack was going to say.

He returned quickly, any sign of his unease from earlier had disappeared as he gave me a small smile. "Raven - one, Zack - zero. Let's see who's the actual super ninja."
