[ahn jihyeon]
As Minjee and her sisters wrestled each other to get to the bathroom, I sat with a sullen face at the vanity, brushing out my hair to get ready for school.
At the butt-crack of dawn, we were up for our classes that began at 9, but due to the amount of people that resided in the small bungalow, awaking early was essential in order to reach anywhere.
When I was younger, I never once imagined that by the time I was 18, I'd be living with 2000 other people. I'm pretty sure 6 year old me has my wedding scheduled in a few weeks.
"Jihyeon, let's go," Minjee said, tapping my shoulder. I had known her since I was 10, we grew up together and ended up in the same university as well. We slowly walked to the bus station and climbed into the bus which had just arrived.
"What happened about the loans?" Minjee asked, looking towards me.
"I'm not eligible for any of them. I'm not a newly wed, nor am I trying to develop a worthy business," I shrugged, sighing.
As I looked towards the brown haired girl, I saw a light spark in her eyes. "Just get married!" She said, getting giddy all of a sudden. I sighed, my hopes dropping. "Minjee, do you think it's that easy?" "No no, not an actual marriage, just a contractual one," she continued to explain.
My eyes widened as I realised that that was a plausible idea.
"Woah, who knew you that your brain was of use!" I teased her, my mood being elevated. "I'm going to make you sleep on the streets, kid," she said, glaring at me from the side of her eyes.
<That Evening>
I was sat in the library, designing posters. For what? For a possible husband. I explained my situation briefly and wrote down my contact information for anyone who was interested. It wasn't like I had any dignity left to protect, I was homeless and broke.
I finished them up and attached them to the bulletin board which was beside the large door. "What's that?" A voice asked, approaching me. "I need to get married," I said, turning around to face the familiar face of Lee Jeno. "You what?" he asked, with a worried look on his face.
"Just read it, oppa," I told my senior.
I had befriended Jeno and his friend group two months ago when I joined the university. Not knowing where any of my classes were, and having read many articles about joining University, I decided to ask one of the many Juniors that were there, which ended up being Jeno, Jaemin, Renjun and Haechan.
"I see," he nodded, reading the poster. "Well, let me know who the husband ends up being," he laughed, parting ways from me.
"And the quest for a fake husband begins," I thought, sitting back down on my seat at the table I was previously at, to begin studying.
